Because of confusion, I already have the b16g turbo, im not upgrading to it. Ok, I bought a safc2 and am goign to go to the dyno soon to tune. Just wondering how much boost the b16g is capable of before it falls out of its efficiency range? Support mods are fmic, 3" turbo back, except stock o2 housing, 2g exhaust mani, walbro 255 fuel pump, filter. Just wondering what kind of power numbers others have made on this turbo and at what psi. Do you think I should upgrade injectors before I tune? Dont want to max out the duty cycle of the injectors. Was thinking of some 680's or somethign aroudn there, as I plan to upgrade the turbo in the near future

I've never understood why someone would purposely buy a B16G. There's absolutely nothing B about it! And the damn thing costs as much or more than a decent turbo.

If I were you, I'd get something with a little more nuts. If you're going to go through the expense and trouble of changing the turbo, put on something with some meat on it. I bought a Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid 57 Trim for $599, brand-spankin' new. It rocks.

well, believe me, im with you. I bought the car with this turbo already on it, so I really had no say in it haha. But, I would like to possibly upgrade to the holset hx35 or something similar soon, but for now, I would just like a good running car with the b16g. just wondering what I can expect out of it. thanks all

Maybe he doesn't like the lag? Different strokes for different folks man. If you don't have the answer to his question then don't post. He didn't ask if you thought this was a good turbo to have bought!

To the poster. Not sure what max boost is on that turbo, but you should indeed pick up a set of upgraded injectors before you start turning up the boost. Good luck and happy boosting, I am sure you will be happy with your choice! :thumb:

I guess I mis-read his original post, and I thought that he was thinking of picking up a B16G. If I knew he already had it, I wouldn't have ranted on about not liking it.

I feel like someone who just asked a woman who is not pregnant when she is due... :coy:

no, not really happy at all with this turbo, haha. too damn small. im used to larger turbos, as i had a gt40 turbo on my vr6 turbo. i like the lag, as i like top end power. But I must stick with this right now for financial reasons, atleast for right now. I think I will pick up a set of injectors though, thanks for the tip

LOL, I am in the same boat catbox, I thought that he had like just got it in the mail and got it on though and had chosen this turbo...I guess both of us suffered from lack of background info on this one :D

how much was that turbo if you dont mind me asking. Precision doesnt list their prices, and i dont feel like calling LOL

$850 from extremepsi.com.....they are a bit more from slowboyracing....for $850 I got the turbo at my door with the oil lines and all, bolt it right on.

btw, I like lag too, thats why I run the scm6152e from PTE LOL

Yes, I like lag too. I had no idea that I would, I thought it would be an inconvenience. But it's easier to just drive around normal and not go into boost, unless I want it to.

GILZTSIAWD - Glad to hear you made it through the storm all right, and your car too. (I just got finished reading the long post about your situation there in Mississippi)

Thanks catbox, thats actually why I am on here so much right now. Usually I got on for a few hours a night and that is it, but right now I am just bored and nothing to do during the day so I get on here for hours and hours and try to help people out.

Lag really isn't all that bad on this turbo. I see boost start to build before 4k rpms at part throttle. Still breaking in my new engine now but with stock bottom end and on a 2g manifold unported I used to see full boost before 4500 rpms. I am hoping to see full boost alot sooner now with higher compression pistons and a nice tubular manifold. On the street the turbo does great and conserves alot of gas since its not trying to spool up on me all the time and making me give it gas. It just spools up when I really want it to and really dig into the throttle. My friend had a 16g and was getting on the gas all the time because he could feel it spooling just cruising around and wanted to feel it. LOL

To answer the original question, the B16G is capable of around 300whp or slightly more on an excellent tune and close to 25-26psi. If you can run a leaner A/F around 12:1 and strong timing advance of 21-22 degrees it should put you close to those numbers. Your lag is a serious issue as I have full spool at 22psi by 3200-3400 RPM. I'd perform a boost leak check and find out what the issue is. Also, I noticed that you don't have an AFPR and you're likely pig rich from overruning the stock unit. Either get one, or change the pump for a 190.

In any event, on a 190 and 550's, I run 22psi with an A/F of 11:1 and 23 degrees on pump. 650's are a good choice if you want some headroom to upgrade in the future, but are not necessary. As to whether you should buy injectors, I think it would be the best bet before being tuned since you'll never see the full potential of the turbo without them. Tune it well, run some race gas and you should be able to run 25-26 psi at the track and 22 comfortably on the street.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Ok, sounds good. Once I get the safc on, i will be going to the dyno. hoping for atleast 275 whp. Then might upgrade to a turbo i have laying around which is a gt40 haha, innovative gst61, or like a holset hx35. something with a little lag
