I haven't heard anything about about the ebay knockoffs because they are EXACTLY the same, It is a solid piece of metal there isnt anything that can break on it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE :thumb: ! MAKE SURE YOU USE LOCKTITE mine came loose a few days after I put it on but once you get that locktite on good is B-E-A-UTIFUL. Short shifter, shifter bushings is my favorite mod so far. :thumb:

Well see thats why I paid $100 more for my B&M shifter, it came with locktite :p  . I looked at the ones they sold on ebay that looked the same as the B&M, but I wasn't sure on the quality so I went with the real thing. Good to know they work well :thumb: Ya my B&M shifts soo nice, I also added the urthane bushings under the shifter plate and the bearings in the linkages that attach to the tranny. Now my shifter feels better then a S2000.

My stock shifter does me fine, granted I'd buy one of these short ones if they were selling at $9.99..but is there really an advantage? I find I can flip through my gears pretty quickly as it is.

Trust me I thought the same thing, it did feel pertty good for a stock shifter but do the things I listed above and it feels 100% better. It makes shifting so much more fun :thumb: . You can set them for 35 or 50% less throw, I set mine at 35 as I like the shifter to move abit :D .

Can you post a link to the one you bought? There are lots of them on eBay...with a $100 spread in price.

I would imagine they got the one like the above posted link. Physically looks the same as the B&M shifter. I was wondering from the guys that bought the "knock off" do they have the bearings in the main body part that pivots? Maybe that why their so much cheeper?

No clue why they are so much cheeper, I anted up and got the actual B&M shifter and set it to 50% and it works like a dream. I cant even remember what it was like to shift with the stock shifter anymore. I'm a freakin n00b when it comes to moding DSM's but I was able to complete the install on my own in under an hour, at night, and in the middle of winter with the directions that came in the box.

I hope you don't get the problems I have heard from those eBay knockoffs.
The ones you've heard problems about probably weren't the B&M clones. More likely the OBX and PaceSetter, which are entirely different and remarkably shoddy designs. If I were B&M (or, Hurst, whose product seems remarkably similar), I don't know if I'd be calling for another run of DSM shifters. The clones -are they Red Chinese, or Formosan?- are easily their equal, and when compared with the wallet caliper, hugely superior.
You'd have to be a pinhead to pay the already-hideous B&M $150+ (which I did, because the clones hadn't gotten off the boat yet) when the same item with different shift knob threads goes for less than a third of that.

yea the B&M is awesome i got that and the Symborski (SP?) shift bushings and it makes it feel so nice plus it only came to about 160.00 for everything. 130 for the shifter and 30 for the bushings by far one of the best mod's ive done yet.

Aahhh probably. I didn't know there was a difference in eBay knockoff quality. :)

any short shifters for the 1g? i cant find any
There are some on eBay, but as Defiant notes above, they look really shoddy.

Plus, the 1G linkage is so easy to modify with common hand tools and a couple of bucks worth of bolts that it probably doesn't make sense to buy one. There are two steps to the procedure. First, modify the lever arm at the tranny. Read that procedure here:

http://mario.germain.com/shifter.html

Second, you will need to add end stops to prevent overextending and damaging the shifter forks. Read that procedure here:

http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs/shiftendstop.html

Piece of cake! Forget the $35 to $160, I'm going the DIY route. :thumb:

Yea the pivots are exactly the same from what I can tell, my stupid friend bought the B&M because he didnt trust ebay very well and he paid 160 when I bought my shifter, mbc, intake, and new plug wires for the same price  , needless to say he hates me now LOL, we compared the two shifters and couldnt find anythign different besides the B&M had it stamped onto the shifter

i use to have one of those OBX.. worse shifter evar!!! so i just modded to stock one to a short shifter. I cut the shifter really low and angled back.. its freaking pimp.. I'll try to get some pics.. oh ya its the shortest looking 2g shifter ive seen also.. hehe

So the knock offs do have the bearings inside? As like you said they physically look the exact same. I can see the B&M's being alot more $ if the knock offs don't have this. Can someone confirm either way? (when you look at the main body of the shortshifter, look inside the part that the factory bracket/post thing slides into, there should be some long bearings)

Yep, I just got mine and I haven't installed it yet. The main part, which is adonized purple, has needle bearings in it. Approximately 8 of them but don't quote me. It's just a guess and probably not right. But yes, there are bearings there.

I am very impressed with the quality overall. The finish and polishing is great and the tolerances seem really tight. It's nothing like the intakes from ebay, which is one of the worst castings I've ever seen. It's got pockmarks all over it and the welds are shoddy, not to mention the holes in the body aren't as big as the pipes welded to it. But after 20 minutes of filing and drilling, problem solved and the thing works perfect. But anyways, back to the subject, OMG the shifter is great and I would recommend it to anybody. :thumb: :thumb:

does the stock shift knob thread to it with no problems??? Also that link is that the one u bought (i know its been asked but gotta double check LoL).

daren_p....for those bearings in the tranny...can u send me a link to what your talkin about....

No, the clones come with their own knob. I suspect the thread is probably Honda's 10X1.5, DSMs are 10X1.25

Cutting your shifter shorter doesn't do anything to reduce the throw length...just because it's shorter doesn't do anything to make the actual shifts shorter....
