B&M and clone short shifter 2nd gen eBay Megan [Merged 3-7]

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I also bought the ebay knock off.. I looked at them and also noticed it looked a lot like the B&M that cost $115 more.. I got mine for $37.99 and recieved it today will be installing it tommorow. although I do not think I recieved a E-clip with mine. if not I will drill a hole and use a cotter pin like stock :thumb:

you get what you pay for. I'll be the first tosay $100 is alot of money, but all of you that bought the knock off say that it LOOKS like a B&M. thats it, it just looks like one. everyone that bought the ebay shifter complained about the e-clip and that it felt stiff at first, it needed to be broken in. Not the B&M 30 min install 50% reduction felt excellent no break in no "bruised palms" and I didn't have to go to rre website for instrucions...it came with them.

The ebay one is identical, the e-clip judging from the instructions on RRE comes with the actual B+M one so I don't know what you're getting at. Also if you go to DSMReviews.com and look at the reviews for the B+M SS, some of them mention the fact that it takes more effort to go into gear...but like most of us said, it doesn't exist after a day or two. It's not big deal that it didn't come with instructions, I didn't expect it to when I bought mine because it was no where on the auction.

have you actually held and looked at the b&m shifter? just looking at it in person you can tell that it a quality piece. what i am getting at is that just because they look the same doesn't mean they are the same. there are tons of gadgets out there that copy an original, like I said you get waht you pay for.

I bought the "cheap" "rip-off" "copy" "garbage" shifter.. installed it today and it work great does axactly what it is supposed to do.. I used blue locktite on the pivot shaft and put some lithium grease on the bearings. the key is to ONLY tighten the bolt unit there is no more side to side play. and the shifter still moves freely.. The shifts are firmer, but not in a bad way you can feel that you have hit the gear vs. release and hope you hit it..

overall I am pleased with my purchase. and would not feel bad to reccomend it to anyone.

Mine didn't need to be broken in. The "bruised palms" were from a combination of the aluminum[re: hard] shift knob combined with the urethane shifter plate bushings. There is no give in the plate anymore, so when you hit the stop, the shifter stops hard.

If the e-clip weren't a pain in the ass, it wouldn't do its job. Its point is to clip on tight and not come off--if yours went on easy, it will also come off easy. Make sense?

I was in a speedshop today and had a B&M in my hands. It is identical in every way to the shifter I bought.

As for the instructions...yeah, you got me there. Congrats on paying an extra $100 for a sheet of paper.

Yeah I have the bushings as well (aluminum) for the shifter plate and for the cable ends. So the difficultly might be related to that as well like you said.

hey if like your shifter thats great! as far as the e-clip going in easy and coming off easy, i have had mine in for a little over a year and it still feels just like i installed it yesterday. it is just a matter of preference. If mine ever does break it does have a lifetime warranty also. i just prefer a quality piece. lets just hope you don't ever have to take of the pita e-clip cause your shifter broke and you don't have a warranty!

Hi Guys,

I'm currently working on putting together a carputer. As of now, the system is built, and the parts are ready to go. The last piece I'm waiting on is a screen. Originally, I was planning on just fiberglassing in a touchscreen, but now I'm considering getting a motorized touchscreen so that I can keep my original deck. I was looking at my interior today however, and I think there may be a problem.

Right now, there doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the top of my shift knob and the space where my deck resides. Right now, since there is only a cd-player installed, this isn't much of an issue. However, since I'm considering getting a motorized touchscreen, I'm not sure whether there will be enough room for the screen to get up and out.

I was wondering if a short-shifter would help with this problem. However, I'm not really sure, how much a short shifter effects the height of the actual shifter? Anyone have any input into this? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help.

Before you get a short-shift kit, you might play around with the height of the actual shift-knob itself.

There's a ton of nice shift-knobs out there that can pimp-out your interior even more, and should be a viable option for you particularly at this point. :thumb: If you really needed it, putting on the Greddy delrin "ball" Ultralight shift-knob will take your shifter's height down quite a bit up top.

Best of luck!

Besides having that much more that can break?

Depending on which radio. The stock Talon "better" radio/CD player won't let you swap CDs in 5th, although it's happy to jam the disk against the shifter if you try. Swap them top-to-bottom, and you can't see the clock. The Infinity double-DIN head has its channel buttons blocked, reminding you just what a good idea Braille really is.
However, since I'm considering getting a motorized touchscreen,
You're going to be some thief's favorite person in the whole world.

There's not.

About 3/4". Threading the knob to a paper-thickness under the top will gain another ½".
Anyone have any input into this? Any other suggestions?
Get the B&M clone off ebay, cut the shaft about two inches and re-thread it. And cut into the shifter knob as well.
Thanks in advance for the help.
I'll bet in five years, all aftermarket radios will be computers. I don't get why they aren't already.

Expecting one in the mail thursday, if you know a walkthrough for this then please hook a brotha up.

those instructions are confusing me LOL

anyone have the link to the b&m instructions thanks :p just got my short throw shifter :thumb:

that install is stupid imo. did you get a symborski shift kit? if not, get it before you install the short shifter, do it while your in there. its only $30. but in that install they replace the stock rubber bushings with poly ones, where as the symborski uses metal ones. you dont need to remove the shift plate to do it, you can just slip them under the plate. ill go look for the B&M one.

ehh look around i cant find it LOL. i take it you didnt get a B&M shifter? cuz the instructions they give are perfect.

random question to anyone who can answer. Do you need to disconnect the battery when removing the center console so the airbags don't shoot open? or is the center console not effected by airbag sensitivity or whatever you want to call it :p

There are only 6 screws that hold the console on, and one pivot nut on the shifter plus a cotter pin. It doesnt take a genius to install it.

how does the ebay b&m replica work out for you guys? I think my shifter is just one of those things I would pony out the dough for and get the good sh*t. :thumb:
