i have a 96 gst. i hooked up my avcr and now my car is idling rough and it won't rev past 2500 rpm. it is also running really rich that you can see smoke out of the exhaust and it smells like raw fuel. i tok the avcr off and it is still doing it. it also threw a cell for mas or air volume flow circuit malfunction. i changed mas sensors and nothing, so i don't think it's that. the cell comes on after the car idles for a bit and it idles ok when you first start the car. it's after a few mintues it starts acting up. what could it be??

If you've changed the MAS and it still does it, try disconnecting the battery for around 30 minutes to re-set the ECU. Hook it back up, have the code cleared and try it again.

Keep us posted,

It shouldnt take 30 minutes for the ecu to reset. Did you mean 30 seconds?

Check you settings on the afc and make sure they are still the same as what they were before the avcr install. For some strange reason, the afc might have lost the settings and went to 0 while you were messing with the wiring during the install.

Sounds like a problem i experienced. But it turned out to be my mas. I know you said you changed it but are you sure that one you put on is good. If you have a friend that has a dsm see if they will let you take his and try it on yours. When i tried a different one on mine i could plug the borrowed one in, start it then turn it off and put mine back in and mine would start fine unless i let it set for 5 minutes or more.

That's a great point. Swapping out a bad one for another bad one will net you two bad ones. Truly, I have a dizzying intellect!

Check to make sure there are no breaks in the afm wiring. If you have an afc then the wire has been split during installation. If you were wiring the avcr and one of these disconnected that would throw a CIRCUIT code. Check the two wires off the safc and insure they are still working properly.

I think you will find you problem somewhere in there, if you are getting a ciruit code.

Hope this helps!

Jake

i played with the settings adn the car is idling fine now but it is still running rich. and it still won't pass 2000 rpm. and the cell is off now. what could be keeping it from not reving up??

I had this same issue, throwing the exact same code. Its the maf air sensor wire into the ecu. Check to make sure its making a good connection.

ok now the car is acting up again. i can have the car running and unplug the maf and it still idles the same. i tried 2 of the maf. now i don't know if they are both bad but they both act the same. i thought that when you took the maf off it should bog out?? the car still won't pass 2000 rpm. the safc II is hooked up right and the car is still throwing hte same cell light. "mass or volume air system malfunction p0100" what the heck is going on??

I had a similar problem with my car when I installed the AVCR. The problem was due to a problem with the directions sent from the manufactorer. The car is supposed to be wired from the actuator like the supra. It took me three twenty minute phone calls just to get in touch with a tech that knew his stuff. He took a look at the directions and realized the mistake. The car was running with no boost contol and would throw ECU error codes and would hit a brick wall around 4000 RPMs. I don't know if you already knew this but you wanna try a reinstall and see if the problem goes away.

ok i put new connerters on the wires and the car is fine now after a little adjusting. it is still a little rich but now it revs up and no cell. i don't want to hook the avcr back up and have it mess things up again
i wonder why it did that?? do you have to adjust the avcr before starting the car??
