automatic trans mods

I just bought a 98 auto gst and have a 20g and link, im just not sure what kind of power my auto can hold, Ive been told to do a full line pressure mod but its my daily and I dont want a harsh shift. What other mods can be done so the stock auto can hold power.

How much boost are you running? A 20g at 10 psi isn't going to harm your stock transmission.

A stock auto is good for up to 400bhp just make sure you give it a good servicing before turning the boost up too high.

im not sure, I dont have a power goal right now, just looking to get into the 12's. if the trans will last till 400 with no mods im sure ill be ok with my stock one. previous owner kept it up very well.

Full line pressure mod is a must for the track. You can have it switched so you can toggle it on and off when you like. I made a ton of passes on my last auto this way with no adverse effects on the trans.

I will say that mine was an AWD auto. You should have 2 stage boost to keep from slipping on launch.

My friend, rbwtrans on this site, just modded his fwd auto tranny. Hes a factory trained tech and an expert. PM him and he'll let you know what to do. English Racing has had tremendous success with their AWD auto and I believe the trans in their Laser is basically stock and the car runs 10's. Its funny how, after all the 5 speed swaps people were doing in the past, the thing to do now is an AUTO swap . In any case, my friend reams the crap out of his car and has never had an issue with the tranny and the car is amazing after he did what he did

In my GS-T I snapped the front mount off the bell housing on the trans. It happened from me holding the brake at the light and launching. It was before I had my XS duel stage and I was trying to run 24psi +... I then ran a trans from IPT with a duel stage and the car was solid. First trans had 80K+ on it and I think it would have been fine if I wasn't try to launch so hard. Our autos work really well when you ease into the power vs a steep torque curve. If you look on here I think someone I was reading just got into the ten's with a STOCK auto.
