Automatic Trans - 4g63t

Hey guys, I own a 1997 Eclipse GST with an automatic trans. I have a huge question... I know for a fact that I need to flush the fluid and change the filter but... the trans is acting really wierd. There is only 86,xxx miles on the dsm, going uphill it shifts fine and on straight stretches it shifts fine. But coming up right after a hill, when the car levels back out and on corners the trans is acting like it can't shift and there is absolutely no power when I step on the gas, anyone else have this issue? maybe help me resolve it? ... thanks!

I looked at the dipstick on the trans and the fluid is full, red, and doesnt smell burnt, but with 86k on it im going to flush it regardless... i was thinking maybe a shift solenoid? maybe something else... idk. im an uti student and i havent taken auto trans yet, so i dont really know whats goin on in there.

Valve body issue maybe?

That's really odd. I just got done taking auto trans last quarter. There is nothing in the trans that has to do with level besides the fluid. My guess is your valve body is loose, so when you do the filter make sure to torque the valve body down to specs. The only other guess is something is clogging your filter that is floating on your fluid. Good luck.

thanks guys! im thinking its my filter/fluid combo.... just because the trans has never had a flush or filter change in its lifespan...

How are you measuring your fluid level? No offense but a lot of people do this incorrectly.... With the car running after being driven to warm the trans up, place the car in neutral with the parking brake on and proceed to check the fluid.

Honestly that sounds like your problem but if the fluid level is fine i would suggest servicing the trans and see if the condition improves.

i know how to check the fluid level not the first time ive checked it... but thanks haha but like i said... it was full and it didnt smell burnt and it was still red... but what im thinking like i said is it just needs a flush and new filter

Quick question, is your trans stock? by stock I mean no ipt trans/translab shift kit?

Ehh, you would be surprised, i work for a dealership and thats one of the biggest reasons for shifting problems we get. Gotta love the guy getting pissed off after you tell him that the fluid was low "but i checked it!!" .

Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask

idk what u mean by that? ... i mean like i have the stock auto trans meant for the turbo'd engine... i havent done enything to the trans...
