I took the tires off my car and it went faster, really. You should try it and don't knock it until you do. I think the weight savings helped and the car is lower to the ground too. I saved weight taking out my gas tank too, I just don't fill up the car anymore, much cheaper that way.

I understand the engine is pretty heavy, if I remove that will it help lighten up the car so it's faster in corners?

LOL. If only.

Then again, with some of the other things I've seen around here, it's no wonder half of you complain about your non-operating vehicles.

Thats so true. I hate duck tape and wire taps and people who dont know what a soldering iron, wrench and a service guide are.

GTM, hey whatever you say man. Have a nice night. I'll just shake my head and agree with you.

Je-sus.. dragging up a 3year old thread with a "me too" on a completely different car which turns into a diarrea-fest

Someone once said "It is better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you a fool, then to open it and remove all doubt".

Are we done here  :dsm:

I hate to ad this but I'm going to disagree with my fellow wisemen and mods. Elementalwindx has a valid point. You can run a motor without the tensioner. Like he said, it's no advised but I've seen it before as well.

I parted out a 91 TSi FWD about a year ago and when I took the timing belt cover off, I couldn't believe my eyes. The tensioner was NOT there. The motor ran less then 2 hours before I pulled it out as well.

From what I remember, the tensioner pulley has enough play in it to combat the adjustment from the tensioner arm and rest at the zero position (which I believe is against the waterpump or a bolt nearby).

Now with that being said, I was disgusted by it. With different engine speeds, the tensioner adjusts itself for different loads and such. Without it, you are risking MAJOR engine damage.

In full, DO NOT RUN WITHOUT YOUR TENSIONER EVER.

Seriously all this for someone who probably isn't even looking at this thread.

To even suggest to someone to run without a tensioner is absolutely ludicrous. If that's what this whole is about I will end it here.

Never run the car without a tensioner.

Whether you have seen it in the past before or not does not make it right so don't even bother making a suggestion. Sounds simple to me.

elementalwindx-You say there are no issues between you and GTM yet I have seen you only post in threads that he has posted specifically trying to discount what he is saying. That will need to stop.

I'm moving this to dead end threads because there is no reason for someone to search see this mess and be even more confused.
