Looking for some input on the topline rebuild kit. I found it on ebay for $299 with free shiping. Im going to use a mitsu timing belt and mls head gaket but how good is the rest of the kit? Im going with the 2g .20 pistons on 1g rods. Im building a motor to handle a 16g with 18lbs of boost on a budget for my buddys car and he isnt planning on upgrading any bigger than the 16g at max of 18lbs boost. This is whats in the kit

Includes the following Items:

Complete Gasket Set all felpro

All Seals

Expansion Plugs

Main Bearings

Rod Bearing

Piston Rings

Pistons 8 to 1 ceramic coated

Wrist Pins

Timing Belt

Wow! That's a pretty decent price. Although the topline pistons will be just about equal to stock, so i wouldn't consider it a "build" but more of a re-fresh.

Add in a topline front cover/oil pump and you've got a fresh engine ready to take several more years of abuse.

the deciding factor for me would be if the pistons are over-sized or not. If they are .020 over, then i'd say go for it, but often the stock bores take some abuse and end up with some scratches on the piston thrust side (toward the back if looking at the block in the car) and they usually need bored to get rid of them. Of course sometimes you can get away with a hone and re-use stock sized componenets, but it's my suggestion that if you're going to pull and rebuild the motor that you should also have it bored while at the machine shop to be cleaned/magnafluxed

Yea i figured that was a good deal and have been told its a decent kit. You can get it with stock or over sized and u can also get the 1g kit with the ceramic coated 2g 8 to 1 pistons. Im gettin the .20 2g pistons in my kit!

Nice, and if you've been running on old 1g 7.8:1 pistons for the last few years you will be happy with the difference in bottom end and spool just from the slight increase in compression ratio. I noticed a really nice difference in going from 8:1 to 9:1 when i built this last engine.

Sounds good but im not sure if a headgasket is included in the rebuild.. If it is and it is a felpro, i suggest you change that to a cometic or an oem headgasket. Ive been hearing alot of felpro failures recently....
