I just resurrected a 94/95 Tsi. It came with in intake exhaust bov and some little stuff I'm not sire about. I replaced spark plugs, wires, did and all fluids, changed and flushed. And using syn fluid in all components. With it not being moved for 4 years I felt the need to do a project and daily driver with the permission of my wife. My problem is that it stutters at 5 psi wot. What would be the best plan of attack for this. I'm 40 and serious about the work that needs to be done. I would like to replace the oil, fuel, brake and boost lines. Is the a kind of hose I need, can I match it up with the proper hoses from my local auto parts store(ie ask for vaccum line and rubber oil lines. Thanks for any help. I'm looking for a plan of attack. I'm driving it and it passed PA smog and safety at my shop. (I didn't inspect it)

The break up sounds like a boost leak. Take a look at this link for how to make and use a boost leak tester. I would recommend using a spray bottle full of soapy water rather than just listening for leaks. Pressurize the intake, spray everything with soapy water, and watch for bubbles.

IC Pipe Tester

As for what hose to use, any decent quality vacuum line can also be a boost line. Using clamps or zip ties will make sure they don't pop off under pressure. Also, make sure your BOV is recirculated back into the intake pipe and not venting to the engine bay.

what he said. sounds like boost leak. if it only goes to 5psi then somehting is wrong. the stock boost solenoid allows for 11psi on 2gs
find out if you have a manual boost controller. if so, make sure it works properly and is hooked up right.
if it isnt boost leak, id guess a fuel filter possibly or maybe the coil pack is weak and failing under high load as thats where they usually start showing signs of failure
couple more things: check plug gaps. make sure theyre around .028 to .031. not sure a boost leak would feel like "stuttering". thats usually a spark issue.

Wes, josh

Thanks. I will replace most vac hoses and oil lines "rubber" from the oil filter to where ever they go and start from there. Also, I will do the fuel filter as well with in the next two days. It has a check engine light on now and I drove it to wrk and back. About 60 miles round trip. It's ok at 1 maybe 2 psi and slow steady throttle. Is it ok to still drive it like this?its not bad just a little temperamental. I'm not sure what to look for as far as the bov venting. What would I look for? Do u think I should take it to the local tune shop ( cbrd) down the street. The younger guys I've talked to said they woulnt be helpful or nice. Like I said b4 I'm 40 and just want to get it running good. Doesnt need to be super fast and I'm not out to make it look bad. I just love this car, can't explain it just do.

Since your CEL is on get the codes read. It could be a number of things that would cause poor performance. Probably front o2 is dead or dying. Of course as already stated boost leak test.

I would do as these guys have already suggested and check for boost leaks. Also, when you say 5 psi, are you looking at the stock "boost gauge"?

your question about the bov venting: make sure the bov has a large tube connected to it and that it runs to the intake pipe before the turbo. i doubt its venting to atmosphere or else it would die everytime you let off the gas . ot atleast some times it would. you would notice that. im still leaning towards a spark/fuel issue.
and i know what you mean, im 31 and have LOVED these cars for 16 years now. they are beautiful little coupes. ive always wanted a turbo eclipse and the good thing about age is patience and most important MONEY LOL. these things take money and patience in spades. youll get there. just work on one thing at a time and best of luck. congrats on owning a awd, bud. great car

Thanks Josh. Im driving it to wrk tomorrow to do the vac lines. the bov has the piping onto the intake. Like I said before the cars hasnt moved in 4 to 5 years. The rubber intake hoses seem brittle and soft. I hav a fuze boost gauge, would that let me know of boost leak?? When the call is off it reads 0 psi

just do a search of BLT or boost leak test. add in harbor freight and see what you come up with. they can be made relatively easy and cheap. i have never used one so i cant help with sourcing the parts or locating kits

I have a after market boost Gage. As well as stock. I looked at the link above and can make one at my shop (blt). Is it ok to drive?? I've put 160 miles on it. I will let u know how it goes. I will be replacing the vac hoses tomorrow someone told me that I have to get a vac hose kit for my car. Is this true and if so have do I get one.

Definitely not, you buy vacuum hose by the foot at the parts store.

Some places online have some good silicone ones, never bought a kit, i saw a nice site, online with some great prices.

If you but silicone hose make sure that it is high quality. The cheap stuff will break within a few months after being in the engine bay. Rubber last's for a long time.

Ok. Advance auto delivers to my shop. I'm driving it to work. Up date everyone tomorrow. How long will this take? Plus replacing oil lines from the oil filter. Who ever had this before me didn't show the car any love.

Didn't hav too much time I tightened underside bolts and all hoses. I have off tomorrw I'll let everyone know how it's going

Just wanted to say thanks for the help guys. I put new o2 sensor in and reset ecu. Replaced fuel filter. It's running much better for now. I do anticapate more issues hopefully small ones. Does any one know where I can get a aftermarket upper rad hose. The one I got from advanced auto is pinching at the necks. It has a doing in it but thought I would ask. thanks again
