surrey,
i just sold my 96 gs spyder and headed to boston on sat to pick up my 98 pst spyder.

im just wondering since ill be new to the stock turbo setup, if ill see any gains by going from the stock intercooler setup to one of those ebay fmic kits?

the most i plan on doing to this car would be a 16g turbo, ebay downpipe and exhaust, i have evo3 exhaust manifold and 02 housing which ill put on when i swap the turbo out.

my plans are to hit around 300 hp, not sure what the stock 4g63 can handle, LOL....yet, gotta do some reading.

With the 16g turbo the fmic will help tons, also if you plan for 300hp get some injectors, (550's/650's) will be good for a 16g, a bigger fuel pump, either a 190lph or 255 lph(if you get the 255 you need a fuel pressure regulator) also a logger and after market boost gauge should be one of your first purchases, then get something to tune with (apexi s-afc 2 or DSMlink) and a wide band air fuel gauge. By putting a fmic on a stock t-25 you will most likely just push hot air and see little to no gains (i had a fmic on the t-25 and felt no difference what so ever btw and the turbo ran out of steam FAST) other then that just make sure you do all the supporting mods, air filter, turboback, intake pipe and make sure the timing belt and such have been changed. Enjoy your new found boost. Jeff

thanks for the post, yeah i knew about the injectors and fp, i should have added that i have bought some parts as i was about to turbo the 4g64 before i sold it to my brother in law and found a gst.

so far i have aquired a gm 3" maf, dejon intake pipe, dejon j pipe, evo 3 exhaust manifold tapped for egt, evo 3 o2 housing ported, s16g ( if the team-2g guy ever sends it and i dont get ripped off...) 95 eprom turbo ecu, turbo xs rfl bov, tien gsx lowering springs, egt gauge, a/f gauge, ebay short shiter, ebay shifter bushings ( both underhood and base )

i think thats it, so i know ill need the dsmlink, the maf translator, injectors, fp, fmic kit ( which is now added to my list again ), dp, catback, boost gauge, electric fuel pressure gauge.

thanks for the tip of the timing belt, ill have to check that out before i start modding.

any input on stock clutches guys?

Deffinately get a boost controller, either an electronic or manual, i prefer a manual boost controller because all you have to do is turn a knob and not mess with a bunch of buttons. Hallman pro or Joe P MBC are both proven and good manual boost controllers.

sounds good, but definetly get a logger so you dont ruin anything you have been putting you time aand money into. Belive i learned the hard way!

does dsm link do the same thing? i guess not, so where would i find these loggers? any recomendations?

thanks for all your input guys!

Does that mean that with only a walbro 190lph, a fuel pressure regulator is unnessasary? Or is it just a wise investment to be made when you are already working with the fuel system?

If you were planning on putting the FMIC on your stock turbo i wouldnt waste your time. I did it to my car and like Jeff822 said you wont even notice a difference. And besdies with my ebay FMIC it was for a down firing turbo, unlike the T-25 so i had to hack the bottom of the elbow on turbo off so i could hook up the front mount.

basically you need a fpr for a 255 because it puts out so much pressure it can over power the stock fpr. I ran a b16g with a sbr fmic at 20 psi. I had trouble hitting 300 hp because of a shitty tune(AFC) and my front mount was way to big. In your case i would go with the 255 and a new FPR. Dont get the Bolt on FPR that is advertised on this site because it gets in the way of the spark plugs plugging into the coil pack. besides that 300 hp should be well within your grasp with dsmlink and 20+ pounds of boost.
Also Ebay front mounts are very good for turbos like 16g's so that is def what you want.
Also the stock bottom end should be able to take it as long as it dont crankwalk, But if an engine makes it past the 100k mark it should be ok for your power levels.
Good luck and Happy driving.

just an update, just picked up my 98 gst spyder guys, and i love the boost! it is higher mileage so im assuming the crankwalk wont be an issue.

first things i plan on doing is the timing belt stuff then the clutch. the clutch doesnt feel the same as my 4g64, sometimes it slips and sometimes its hard to downshift into 4th, but not all the time, so im hoping its clutch related and not transmission. it has no troubles up shifting though.

after those issues are sorted out then the real modding will begin.
