Annoying click when turn the key over

So every time i turn the key over to on, or say i was to take a cable off the battery and put it back on, i hear this annoying clicking for a short bit, also the car wont start, but it turns over, and before it refused to start, itd lose power exactly once i hit 2100 rpms, please help
 
The clicking sounds like a relay going out (my guess is the fuel pump relay). Check to make sure you are getting spark to all cylinders.
 
How do i test the relay? and its coming from under the hood. Thanks for the replies, also what would i be looking for as good or bad when i checked the ECU, and how can i check if its getting spark if it cant start? Sorry i dont know much haha

Check the fuse box under the hood. The ECU, you would check for corrosion on the board. Pull the plug wires out and lay them on the valve cover. Try to turn the car over and watch to see if they start sparking.

is the ECU in the same spot as it is in 1gs? and thank you, i'll go check that fuse box now, its freezing :[
 
Don't mean to hijack your thread, but what do you do if you can't get the key in the ignition to turn? We messed with it for awhile, and finally got it to turn once, but can't get it to turn again.:banghead:
 
Did it get wet? something could be corroded inside keeping it from turning, happened on my first gen, due to no windshield and rain LOL, but thats all i know, im sure there could be more causing the problem besides that

I would make a new thread for that problem :confused:. could be the key or cylinder.
 
+1 again for LiQUiDx. For some reason i have been finding alot of people running into the same clicking/ticking problem under the hood. My friends 1g was doing the same thing and the first clicking was the relay for the windows but it was good than the other clicking/ticking was the ISC motor i would have someone in the car turning it to the "on" position while your under the hood listening. And my friends ECU was literally melted on a chip so we replaced it and no more clicking/ticking.
 
I was having grounding problems when this happen to me. I couldn't start mycar when I turn the key and just heard a clicking noise like those old type writers. Also when I didn't start the car for a day I would loose starting car power. I redid all the battery, starter and altenator ground plus add another ground to the altenator. The click went away and starting the car was a breeze. Just another symptom to try.
 
Every once and a while my ISC motor would make a rapid clicking upon turning the key on. Ever since steve rebuilt my ECU it hasn't happened when turning the key on, but when I turn the car off I can sometimes hear it click a couple times (i'm guessing this is the ISC returning to it's "off" position).

My ISC works like a champ though, perfect 750 idle.

Also, check your idle sensor switch, it's a one wire plug right on the throttle body. It should have very low resistance to ground (no more than a couple ohms) when the throttle is closed. Mine was either fully open (infinite resistance) or had really high resistance, around 1K ohm. I took it off and sprayed the crap out of it with brake cleaner and it works great now. If you take yours off, make sure to leave the nut in the same place, as it needs to be in an exact position. I got lucky and when I twisted the nut the whole thing came out with it. If you do move the nut by accident, the sensor should be turned in until it touches the throttle plate, and then turned another 15/16th's of a turn.

I fixed this as well as the ECU at the same time, so I don't really know which one fixed it.
