Im currently running a
96 Gs-T
Apex'i FMIC
K&N Filter Adapter
Greddy type S bov
3" Apexi N1 down pipe
3" greddy evo 2 full exhaust

Now pretty soon im planning on getting ECMLink after I sell this other eclipse I currently have along with the AVC-R and SAFCII it came with. My problem is that I need my car every day and dont know when I would be able to send my ECU in to get chipped and what not.
One option I came to a conclusion of was to take the ECU out of the other eclipse and send that in and when it came back switch it with the one in mine. But this can go wrong in some ways as well.
So any opinions or options on this matter are appreciated

Armin

Ecmlink sells Eprom ecus pretty cheap already ready for a chip and if you order them both at the same time you lose the socket fee! :hellyeah:

I would ask too, and see if htey would let you send in your computer as a core when you got your computer and link from them and get some money back?

Hmm, Also with ecmlink would you be able to take it to a dyno and have someone else tune using ecmlink or does that completely fall upon me? I don't have a great laptop at my home and I am unsure if it could run ECMlink

Also V3 lite and v3 regular. Is there a big difference in the two?

What issue are your worried about by sending in the other ECU?

Concerned if a 97 ecu works fine in a 96. On the ECM site they have them split into different categories thats what brought about my concern on the subject

Well that showed me that v3 is more worth it.

Now would a 97 ecu work in a 96? If so why did they split the ECU Eproms from 95-96 then 97-99?

Just curious since they also said the 95-96 was really low in stock, so I would just order the 97 ECU and not have to worry about them not having ecu's

You will be fine sending in the 97 ECU and having it converted. It will work exactly the same. I'm not too sure if you will need to swap injector plugs and/or spark plug wires however.

Do the injector plugs and spark plug wires directly connect to the ecu or are you just talking about the regular spark plug wires connected at the top of the valve cover?

I also read that the 96 eprom ECU has a Glitch where the CEL wont turn off? Is this also true?

And if it came down to it I would rather just purchase the eprom ECU I didn't know it was that cheap seeing as how the conversion is only 30$ less

IF the injectors need swapped you would likely do it at the harness that plugs in to the ECU. Again, I'm not positive if that needs done or not with the 97+ ECU as the CAS signal is reversed. Plug wires would be swapped at the plugs themselves. Read up on the wiki on ECMLink.com and see if you can dig up the information you are looking for.

I suppose you would be right as the 97 ECU is expecting one polarity while the 96 CAS is expecting the opposite. So by using non 95/96 CAS it would correct itself by changing the polarity at the ECU to match the CAS. Is that what you are getting at?

Interesting indeed. So it would almost seem that a converted 2gb ECU would be more "user friendly" to install.

That would defiantly be some good information to know about :thumb: He should at least make a note of that on the wiki if it's not already there or even on the ECU conversion page.

Got a response from Tom and he confirmed my thoughts below.

If someone was to install a '97 converted EPROM ECU into a car with a 1g or 2gb CAS, they would not need to invert CAS and swap plug wires, as the signals should be the same.

However, if they installed the '97 converted EPROM into a car with a '95/'96 CAS, they would need to invert the CAS signal and swap the plug wires.
