Ways to verify ECMlink works Prepurchase

I have been looking for dsmlink for a lil bit now. I am close to closing a deal, locally. I would like to know if there is a simple/easy way to tell that a DSMlink + Eprom is fully functional before purchase.

For Example, could I drive my Laser up to the seller, unplug my ecu, plug in the eprom ecu, plug in the link cable, hook up laptop with software, turn it on?

What should/could i look for?

I know i wont be able to do much, but if it launches and everything I should be good to go right (launch software, not car )?

I just dont want to get burned on $500.

In other words, how would you make sure you are buying a legit working eprom+dsmlink?
(please dont tell me go to ecmtuning.com for purchase, unless they have thier own walkthrough for purchasing used...)

If you get the sellers contact info, ECMLink should be able to tell you if it's a legit copy and if the seller actually owns it.

What version of DSMLink are you picking up?

In general . . . you should be able to hook everything up, connect to it with your laptop and at LEAST read back sensor data without the car running.

And these steps are enough to verify if anything is wrong?

This means the ecu is functional and the DSMlink is functional.

It will only need a programed "tune"

What is the customer support like on Link for used Link owners? lets say the software is glitchy and it is a 100% legit copy?

I also want to be 100% sure I have the correct software ready to go when I go check it out...
I have a netbook running Windows XP service pack 3
-"Windows (complete install)" 21M <--- this is the program right?
-"Windows (installer app)" 2.1M <---this is the driver right?

"Windows (zip file)" 819k <--- or is this the driver (or same as above, just zipped?)

As long as you can connect to the ECU, then it's functional.

I've never heard of any glitches in the software. It's a free download from their site, so anyone can get the latest copy. But the customer support is amazing if you ever need any help.

I figured its fool proof. I just want to be sure so that when I test it im not there scratching my head thinking if its working or not. thanks.

So when I plug ECMlink into the netbook for the first time, It will try to install drivers...
I click specify path,
and I specify wherever "CDM 2.04.06" is located?

The video said to use the CD, which i clearly dont have, and netbooks dont have disc drives...

Just download the software and drivers off Ecmlinks download section on their website. You don't need the CD. When you get it, plug it in and try and connect. Is this V3 full or lite? Make sure the ECU is for a 91-94 and not a 90, unless you plan on swapping pin 6 and pin 14 to run the 90 ECU, which works fine too.

Sometimes you need to download a driver to make the driver in the cable work. So just a heads up.

once you click changes on your computer, after trying out the ecu, youll know, because you will hear your car sound diffrent a lill bit each time, at least at the end of the day you can send it too ecm, and they will do a full functions test on it, wich is a good idea any-way. . . i wish you the best friend, im waiting on my v3 full to return from being chipped,
