Hello everyone,

I’m trying to figure out how to wire a aftermarket fuel gauge since I no longer have any stock gauges. I have the stock sending unit on a JMF fuel cell is there a way to wire the aftermarket fuel gauge to the stock sending unit ?

Thank you

You'll need a programmable fuel level gauge. The senders use resistance to run the gauge, 2-3 ohms full and like 110 empty on the 1g if I'm not mistaken. The fixed gauges you'll find are mostly gonna use a GM, Ford or Chrysler type sender. I use the GM sender in my car. The GM is close to the same values as stock but it's backwards, 0 ohms empty 90 full so it would work well enough but it'll run the gauge backwards LOL .

As for the gauge I haven't done it myself but you can probably use some resistance type universal gauge or one calibratable. It's 3 ohms (Full) and 110 ohms (Empty). As for the low level indicator, IIRC you can connect a light to pin #4 on the sending unit connector or the yellow/blue wire, this would be grounded when the fuel level gets low.
I also have the JMF 10 gallons fuel cell. I finally went with a dipstick.

What do you mean by dipstick? My sender is dead and I'm thinking of installing an aftermarket sender.

Has anyone done it on the stock 1g sending unit ?
I don't use the stock sender with the dipstick, I was using the stock sender without a pump only for the gauge. But the sender stopped working just after I replaced the fuel tank with the JMF10 gal cell. Dipstick is inconvenient for the street use but it's ok for the track or short distance driving.
I just drilled a JMF fuel ring cap and installed a fuel cell dipstick. Like the pic. I am not sure if the stock sender with a pump has enough space to let a -6 or -8 AN fitting pass through into stock fuel tank but if there is, should be able to use a dipstick.

Just so happens I have just resolved a similar issue. I got a universal float/sender and an electonic converter. Around a hundred bucks from Tanks Inc. I’m using my stock hanger and gas tank, but senders are discontinued. My new sender is a 0-90 ohm range, but it physically won’t travel through that sweep in my tank. The little gizmo can be calibrated for a host conversions, including reversing the high and low resistance to make the gauge work perfectly. I’ve yet to get mine back in the car yet, but have confidence.
