Shiloh,
I am ordering a new fuel pump and a AFPR (and new injector seals) soon to go with the exhaust, and I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy a new fuel rail as well. What are the advantages of an aftermarket one? Better flow? Bling factor? I know to install most AFPR I'll need an adapter that goes to the stock 1g rail, but with aftermarket one I don't need it. BTW which one do you think is better, the Aeromotive or the AEM and why? I was just trying to figure out if they are worth the 150 +/- dollars. They are about the same price.

I have been told that the fuel rail on dsm's does not need to be upgraded utill you are reaching some serious power levels. So unless you want the bling, I would put the money into other parts. The adaptor shouldn't cost that much. Also i think some people recomend using some braided steel hose to mount the regulator away from vibration. Like on the shock tower or something.

The inside of the stock fuel rail is roughly the size of an -08AN line. Now I've read a few places that -06 can flow enough fuel for around 1000cc injectors. The guy that made the write up for the vfaq had it flowed and even with the -06 lines, the system flowed about 10lpm@80psi. Definately don't need a new fuel rail...

So If i went with a 255HP and an aeromotive(most likely what I'll get) and something like extreme psi's -06AN kit I should be good to go? Or do I need another line kit to adapt my filter to go to the FPR?

Unless you plan or have the need to upgrade the entire fuel system with -8 lines or larger I wouldn't waste the money for an aftermarket fuel rail. I have built sveral DSMs(not all my own) and used the factory fuel rail on all of them, but one. I take the factory rail, drill and tap both ends to pipe thread and install -6 fittings. The pipe thread to -6 fittings are only $10 each at the local speed shop and if you have the proper tools it is a cheaper alternative to the adapters. The only car I used an aftermarket rail on is my 91 TSi to accommodate the taller Bosch injectors and at that point decided to upgrade to a -8 rail size.

Stock fuel rails will work for your set up. You'll have no need to change them out right now other than for looks. SBR just ran 500+whp will stock rail,FPR, lines, hoses etc.. Hell I am running stock lines, rail, FPR and hoses. And they are holding fine.
Hope this helps with your decision. :thumb:

I am using the Slowboy return line kit with my Aeromotive AFPR. The only hard part was getting the fitting onto the end of the stock rail, but that was because of tight clearance. But other then that, I'm thinking that's all I'll ever need. I've heard until you are well above 400whp the stock rail is fine.
