Does any body know if the aftermarket Rich Porter Technology MA 100 will work for my GM MAF? I've seen several post that say aftermarket GM MAFs won't work, but never why, or any explanation.

im not sure about the porters one as i am new also but the gm maf will work as long as you have a MAFT or a SAFC. i am in the process of buying a gm MAF and a MAFT to run on mine.

Thanks, I do have it wired to a MAFT and I also have a SAFC. I took out the 2g MAF and replaced it with the MA 100 in the upper intercooler pipe. Plus I took out the 550cc injectors and put in 1000cc injectors then filled up the tank with e85. I also installed a Innovate LC-1 in the existing O2 location and I'm using the O2 simulation along with the X-16 display. And finally, I added a data logger.

I did this all at once.

Yes I know, I know, I am now a big advocate of doing one mod at a time!!! The fuel pump had already been upgraded, so I have set the Pressure regulator at 40ish.

Basically, I can't get it to even idle well.

SAFC are limited to 650 or 720 cc injectors.

1000cc injectors are too big for your tuning system. Looks like you are already in need of link (ECMlink).

I hope you didnt just swap injectors, filled your tank with e85 and left everything else stock. Also, your profile doesn't give much detail about your setup.

Thanks for the feedback. Here is my old set-up that worked:

18G Turbo, with external wastegate and divorced downpipe.
High flow cat, 4" muffler (Sounds really good)
2G Exhaust Manifold
2G MAF
Greddy Vented BOV (bought the car this way, but man does it sound cool!)
550cc Injectors
Fuel Pump, and Regulator (set at 70)
Dials EGT, Fuel Pressure, Turbo Boost
No engine management, that I can find.
Manual boost controller
Forged pistons and rods (so I was told)
CAMs reground (I believe, because were the markings are supposed to be is a large square)

It ran great boosting up to about 25 before fuel cut.

So I added the MAFT to install the GM MAF, and tune for the 1000 injectors, since the SAFC won't control that high.

MAFT for base tuning (larger injectors and e85) and the SAFC for the finer tuning??

Thanks, John

Yes but if hes running E85 on 1000cc's his Global % should be set at around -32% and if they are PTE/Delphi injectors the Global % should be set at around -28%! SOO if the SAFC is 650-720cc injectors, he should be fine!

That is the reasoning that I used as well.

SAFC adjusting for 1000cc +E85.

However, I just couldn't get to run very good. Okay on low speed, and idel only.

So I added the GM MAF (MA 100) and the GMAFT2 for further adjustment. Plus the Innovative wideband with the O2 simulation.

Now it really runs like crap. Basically I have to pump the crap out of the pedal just to keep it running then it will breifly speed up, and the AFR will go from 22ish to 14 then it drops back down.

I've double check all of the wiring.

I am suspecting the Aftermarket MAF and or MAFT. (Note: I got the MAFT for a 2G since I had a 2g MAF and the connector fit. Everything I read said that should not be a problem.)

I forgot to add that I have a over-sized side mount intercooler, and a HKS throttle body.

There is a couple of plugged up ports on the throttle body, so I suspect that at one point it might have had Meth injection?? If so, it's all gone now.

I look forward to running on e85. The SAFC+MAFT set up are just to get my feet wet at tuning.

A/F is 22 and drops to 14.. that is extremely lean (22)!
Your MAFT should be zero'd out and set for 450's then tune with the SAFC to get you global fuel at -28% to -32%.
Im not to sure how well the SAFCs work, but i know it isn't the most accurate tool to tune with!

Or if you really want to try it, set the base injectors to 550's on the MAFT and tune with the SAFC for the remainder! Not really sure how well that would work but you can give it a shot!
For the remained to be tune on the SAFC you would use the same e85 conversion formula:

550/(1000/1.49)-1= -18%
(Im really taking a wild guess on this and the fact it might work, but i say if you cant figure it out, why not play around to see if it might work) Just try to stay out of running so lean, i dont want to see you melt a piston!

Thanks Skateshawn, I ended up setting the SAFC to -25ish accross the board and I'm back in business, at least able to boost a little.

So after getting my log working again, I would say yes the After Market GM MAS MA 100 from the local Auto Parts store does work.

This thread can close.

Thanks all, I've moved over to a tuning thread now called 40 deg of timing?! :)
