So While at work I ran into an old friend of mines dad. His son my friend passed away, what I guess was like 2 or 3 years ago. So I know he had a 93 eclipse gsx, well one thing led to another and he told me he still has it that he didn't have the heart to sell it, and he offered it to me for a grand he told me he still starts it at least once a week sometimes hell miss a week but hes been good with it for the most part.

Well last time i talked to Danny i was actually helping him replace o`rings in the throttle body. But it was boosting like 20 psi i think its suppose to have a bunch of upgrades oh and a 92` 6bolt in it already. I know he had told me it had upgraded injectors not sure what size, fuel pump walbro 190?, big 16g turbo?, waste gate, full 3inch exhaust no cat turbo back, and a ported exhaust manifold? not to sure about everything, oh and a k&n airfilter, and s-afc. Sheesh I guess i rememberd more then i thought. I dunno if he was just hyping me up or not though and his dad has no idea.

I got to listen to it run and rev over the phone shit sounds sweet I'm going to look at it tonight its gonna be dark though meh. With any luck ill get it in my driveway tomorrow and get some pics up.

Anything I should be looking out for...I mean I'm taking it regardless it runs and I know its got some work and i know i can check the oil pan to see if it is actually a 6bolt but anything else? It looks pretty clean here is a pic he emailed me.

Sounds like a decent deal. Modded cars are always a a gamble of course, unless you know the original owner and their habits.

What are your plans for the car? What's the mileage?

I was told the odometer has 158k on it but that the engine has about 90k give or take if that is accurate and it really is a 6 bolt swap that is i guess ill find out. I know before he passed he was doing mostly maintenance work on like replacing gaskets and seals getting rid of boost leak and shit. I plan on continuing in that route too when i get it replacing the hoses doing a boost leak test belts plugs wires etc, tune up bs.

After the replacing general maintenance parts and tuning ill prob put it on the road, do some new mods. Check out the old mods see what is actually done to it either change them or upgrade them or what ever once its to much for the street or blows up ill take it off and track it. More or less just a learning experience/project for me. I'm only 21 been working on cars since I was a wee lad under the guidance of my father. But my knowledge is pretty limited to so just really looking to learn and have fun.

Also I now have my own place a decent job and idle time, and it will give me a good excuse to go my parents house all the time and raid their fridge, eat for free and steal food heh.

These definitely turn into project cars, but it sounds like you're going in the right direction.

These cars can get a little finicky given their 25 year b-days are right around the corner, so you're smart to continue with the maintenance. Like you said, gaskets, hoses/tubes, filters, oil, water pump, t-belt along with balance shaft belt, etc. Compression, leak-down, idle screw, etc. was next for me.
Get the OEM Chrylser/Mitsubishi shop manual too. I skipped the Chilton/Haynes on this one.

This link has the upgrade path for the 1G, kinda helpful to get you pointed in the right direction and to see what others have already done..... Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

Also, check out vfaq.com- DSM bible.

Hope for the 6-bolt engine too, that will be a big plus.

Anytime you get a DSM you have to be ready for just about anything. I do have to agree with Kreez that these cars turn into project cars. If you go into it knowing that everything will take time then you will be better off.

That sounds like a good deal for a grand, I would buy that in a heart beat. It's look pretty clean from that side. First thing you should do is maintenance like change the timing component, water pump, oil, trans fluid, transfer case oil and rear diff oil.

Got to see the car last night, in the dark but it was better then not at all. The body was in very good shape the only rush i seen was some surface rust on the drivers door and the bottom ground affect seemed to be hanging a little. P-leather? black interior didn't notice much cracking, except on the drivers seat. The center of the steering wheel was held on by electrical tape. LOL? The stereo has been torn out and an afc sits Velcro-ed on just below ha, I think its the old one it has just a knob on the left. No matter I would be looking to go to a better tuning system/logger any way. dsm link? or they call it ecm now right, that would be down the road though. Space for three after market gauges on the interior A-pillar with only one filled with a turbo gauge.

So I pop the hood get out take a look at the engine a lot of stuff appeared to have been removed couldn't see to well using a BS flash light but like on the throttle body it looked like it was missing what could be coolant hoses. Also is there suppose to be two radiator fans in the car? Under the car there apeared to be no rust but it was very dark and hard to see. I also couldn't see the oil pan to check if it was a six bolt. Any other way to tell? checked the oil it was actually clean battery terminals were clean and tight with no corrosion and everything seemed to be pretty well maintained and in good working order.

Well I started the car it turned right over no hesitation on starting, only thing is the battery is shot, no biggie. Car ran very strong engine was very smooth no ticking the afc reported no knock. Drove it around the block a couple times boosted at about 18psi didn't really have any place to really get it going since it wasn't on the road but it ran so good and some very impressive power. Brakes were a little mushy but much cant be expected for a car that has just been sitting for the last few years. I also found out that it has a short throw transmission an upgraded clutch w/ steel braided lines? not really sure what was done there but I could defiantly feel it wasn't a stock clutch. All in all i was super impressed the car ran mint and looked very good.

Hopefully today when I get off work I will be able to get it into my drive way before it gets dark jack it up and get a good look at everything and post some pics. But it is officially mine. <3

It's already mine I got the title and am in love, just have to pick up the car this evening.

I can not wait to get jack it up and then put it on the road.

Awesome! *cue dramatic orchestra music* Welcome to the world of DSMs.

And yes, two radiator fans. The head bolts are different between 6 and 7 bolts, but it sounds like its been worked on, so the bolts have probably been replaced anyway. The oil pan trick is usually the most reliable way to id.

that's an awesome deal. i'm trying to get me a 1g talon in the garage here soon and wish i could get one running for 1k.

Got underneath it yesterday the engine was swapped to a 6 bolt!

It is missing a radiator fan the one directly in front of the exhaust manifold, would that have needed to be removed for an after market exhaust manifold looks like there is plenty of space if you ask me. I don't suspect that it would cause any serious cooling issues, but should I obtain a new fan?

They usually kick in while idling, as normal driving airflow will generally be adequate for cooling. NYC traffic may take a toll, so you might as well just get a new one. There are a few aftermarket slim fans available. I've always just rocked the OEMs. A fan is a fan for most of us. Replacements can be picked up at junkyards.

The driver's side fan is only supposed to come on with the A/C. My guess is that he eliminated the A/C and therefore the fan as well. I did the same thing years ago before I got an Aluminum radiator and dual slim fans. There is nothing wrong with only having the 1 fan. (Unless you rewire it, or it has already been rewired in Kreez's case, the passenger side fan will not turn on without the A/C on)

Also you mentioned that coolant lines had been removed from the throttle body, sounds like he blocked off the FIAV. I would probably reinstall that, especially in a cold climate like NY.

I've not found that the FIAV or the IAC is necessary. It doesn't get quite as cold out here as it does in NY, but even with the block frozen solid (my dumb ass didn't put antifreeze in it) it fired up just fine. Takes a bit of pedaling for the first few hundred feet, but not a big deal after that.

Yea the A/C is already a done deal so it makes sense that that fan isn't there.

As far as the FIAV goes I was reading on the Colorado dsm forum that a number of guys there have tried it and it has worked well for them with no freezing issues, all though it is less humid there (Colorado) then here (New York) (I think). It is done for the most part to fix idle issues from what I understand. Well it looks like I would need to replace the FIAV depending on how the block off was performed, and considering that it is spring that will be something I will consider more down the road.

It has nothing to do with freezing issues. The FIAV just allows the engine to idle higher on cold starts so it will warm up to normal operating temp faster. Is your ISC still in place?
