My 99 gsx is losing to a 93 gsx that is basically stock. My 99 gsx has new intake to intercooler piping, greddy type rs bov, and a few other little mods. What could be the reason i am losing to it? I am a great driver, both the guy and me are really experienced drivers but since i am new to dsm tuning, is there something i am missing.. What could be the reason for this?

Around a car length, I know i should be pulling on him but everytime he pulls on me. I pull on him in lower gears but in 3rd gear he kills me. It is really frustrating.

99 Gsx is a lot lighter than 1g cars. How much you loosing by?
I hope this is a typo since you are a proven member. Here are the reasons

1. 1gs weigh about 300lbs less than a 2g.

2. 1gs come with a 14b turbo, much more potential than a t-too small.

3. 1gs come with larger head ports stock and have way more aggressive timing maps.

And no offense to the OP, but if you are on a stock turbo and have a greddy bov, you're money could have been spent better places. Also, are you recirculating?

This is incorrect. There is less than 150#'s difference between any year awd platform, and it's the 1g's that are lighter by a slim margin.

OP, you may be losing due to a number of reasons. Have you done a boost leak test lately? How old/fouled are your plugs? Air filter clogged? Ignoring basic maintenance can add up in the long run.

His turbo is also bigger than yours, if you are both stock turboed.

Or it could be that he really is a better driver than you. A couple tenths at the line can make a big difference.

*EDIT - Wow, I gotta learn to type faster :)

Might wanna check for any boost leaks(ie BOV too soft) as well as that may be slowing you down.

The Bov came on the car when i bought it, so no real waste of my own money. And yes i am resirculating.

And tell us you are doing this at the drag strip ROFL Street racing is a major NO NO:notgood:

Yes this is at the track, but i am not asking you where i should do it. Please refrain from telling me from right from wrong. I am capable of knowing that racing on the streets is wrong.

Of course no one one here would ever, ever street race. silly thought! wink, wink

He was just telling you because it is against forum policies and a mod might warn or suspend you. He is just trying to help you, not tell you what to do.

I know, I have read all of the policies, this is at the track. Whats the best way to do a boost leak check?
