Ok so I am new at this..... I have had a couple of DSMs in the past one of which was a 95 RS that completely rebuilt. Rods, pistons turbo'd the whole nine yards....had about 20k or so in it and never really got the performance that I wanted out of it..... So in my mind the next logical step was to find a GSX. And I did cheap about 3k so I bought it. The guy told me that it had crankwalk and that it would have to be completely rebuilt, but i was ok with that cause I knew I would not keep it stock long. Come to find out it was a clamp was missing on one of the intercooler pipes..... LOL... put one on there and the car ran good built boost and everything..... So now I am tired of stock. Ready to go big. I am looking for 500 hp or so.....My questions are can it be done on the 7 bolt or do I need a 6 bolt. If so does it matter if its 2g or 1g and id if 1g is ok does it have to be a turbo'd 1g originally or can it be a non turbo. Any help is greatly appreciated.... And thank you

What a Find! Back to your questions, Starting with setting a REAL goal limit first, Then you can move on to Bigger and better things. On the engine questions, Yes, you can pull out what number you are looking for with the right funds behind it. Either one between a 7 or 6 bolt will do some power, just know where to start and begin. I would NOT use a N/A 6 bolt, because of the fact you would have to swap out internals anyway, so save you the trouble of it and fine a 6 bolt turbo. Go and have fun...welcome back to the world of DSM.:thumb:

P.S. A lot of the "1g WISEMEN", can get you on the right path...

Nice! Never new you could fix crankwalk with a clamp :p LOL.
Any SPECIFIC plans(parts, track/drag, etc)? I say you stick with the 7 bolt, although more and more prefer the "easier"way and go 6. Anyways, goodluck and again nice find :)

A revised 7 bolt (ie split thrust bearing 98/99 7 bolt) is easily just as strong as a 6 bolt. There is 0 reason to swap to a 6 bolt at all anymore as even the old 7 bolts have proved to be very tough. Look at corys talons posted above.

Lol, crankwalk. :toobad: Good thing for you that guy was an idiot. LOL

Keep your stock 7 bolt. 6 bolt swaps are a waste of time IMO. I think the PO of the car already proved why...

Well I bought the car for $3000. I am going to street t only. Rarely at the strip. I just dont wanna loose to any mustangs and camaros. I have a list that includes Manley rods and pistons, Ferrea valve kit, a gt3582r, FIC 950s, DSMLink ( tho i need some more info on it) FP cams etc.... It came to about to about $8000 in parts. There is just some things that idk about yet... like is evo valve train better than the 2g and why.... is a 1g head better that a 2g.... just little things like that, that could make all the difference or no difference. Again thank you all for the info and help

This is true except for the rods... 6 bolt rods are stronger.

But to the OP, keep your 99 7 bolt. I like mine. Just turned 240K yesterday and still going 120 miles a day.

Keeping my 99 7 Bolt as well! My goal 450hp and i will achieve very very soon!!!
