So, I have two questions. First of all, I pulled off my bov the other day to clean it. I looked into the uicp where it was bolted on and saw this.

Is that normal? If so, what is it from? I know the uicp is pretty crappy so I'm not sure if it's a really bad weld job or something else. Also, could that be hindering performance? And if it isn't normal, how can I fix it?

Second question deals with motor mounts. I have Prothane motor mounts (I think) in 2 out of 4 mounts. This one is the drivers side mount.

Should there be a space between the lip of the bushing and the metal of the motor mount? What might have caused it and if it's bad, how can I fix it?

Thanks!

that BOV looks like either metal from welding rod, or corrosion,
Can you scrape that stuff off? if not its metal and you can grind (ie port) that stuff off.

Not sure about that motor mount, do you have all of the engine side bolts in?
Looks like there is one missing in the top of that pic,

On the bov the appears to be a really bad welding job. You can use a die grinder with a carbide bit to grind it out. A Dremel will also work but take longer.

Thanks for the help so far. Rob, here is another picture of the motor mount. I'm assuming you mean the whole that is in the top left corner?

I do have a dremel so I may have to have a go with that and see what I can do. If not, I'll have to look for an electric die grinder...

Yeah, after looking at that again, does your engine sit crooked at all?
take a good look at it from the front looking down, something is bent or worn.
Maby its the rear engine mount? is that prothane as well?

Why do you only have 2 out of 4 poly mounts? You should always replace all four at the same time.

Here's a picture of the front motor mount (don't mind the 'bolt'...I know I need to get a replacement bolt but not sure what size). I don't think that's a prothane one since it's black. I bought it like that and I think only 2 were replaced because 2 of them are easier to get at than the other 2 (from what I read). I'm not sure but I think it is the back motor mount that is the other prothane one.

Also, here's a picture of my engine. From the picture, it kind of looks cocked to the drivers side but I'm not sure. I'll go out later and look but what should I be looking for...sitting crooked side to side or front to back?

Just be sure to remove the UICP from the car before dremeling the bad weld out. And do be sure to get all the metal bits out of the pipe before reinstalling it. You wouldn't want to get debre in your intake.

Oh and recirculate your BOV back into the intake pipe!

the reason your driver's side motor mount looks like that is because it just needs to be twisted. The motor mounts look like circles, just with two spots where they are flat. You just have to line them up and it will slide it. I had to do that on mine.

just jack up the motor from the oil pan, just dont dent it. take out the 4 bolts(or 2 in your case) that hold the drivers mount in, and twist the mount by hand to line up the flat parts(face them towards and away from the motor, or horizontal). If you have to, you can pull them out(lube them up w/ grease if you can, helps a lot) then press them together until they are all the way in. That one side just looks like it needs to be spun around some. Its really easy. Good luck:thumb:

One other comment from the picture besides the BOV not recirculating.... Are you sure the motor is original to the car? Also, look into getting the timing belt covers, its better to be safe than sorry.

I'm looking at the picture and I see a second motor mount ... circled in red. This is a 95 car right ...

Ya man that is definately a 1g motor. Either 6 bolt or 7 bolt you cant tell from just the mount. Definately not the origional lower end. And that motor is listing to the drivers side. Unless im drunk again.

Yes, its a 95 GST with a 6 bolt swap that the previous owner did (we checked the oil pan to make sure.) (I'm snowborder714's brother by the way.)

Just to add - you should use a block of wood between the oil pan and the car jack. This helps to spread out the pressure that the jack is putting on the pan.

Ok. And I don't have to worry about denting my oil pan because it's already dented. Thanks for the help!

Yeah... not exactly the greatest reason to "f" up your pan any more than it already is.

Ya, I planned on using a block of wood between the jack and the oil pan so that (as everyone stated) it'll distribute the weight more evenly.

And I've been wondering that those two random bolts were for sticking up in front of the timing belt! I would not have guessed that's where a motor mount went.

As for the timing belt covers...is it 2 pieces or more than 2? I don't think I have any covers on the pulleys or belts at all.

Are the two random bolts (the second motor mount) in the picture useful anymore? Could they be cut off just to look a little nicer?

take out the 4 bolts(or 2 in your case) that hold the drivers mount in

I see where the two bolts are on the top of the mount, and the one that goes through the red inserts on the side, but where is the 4th bolt? Also, what are the two smaller holes on top of the mount for?

First you need to identify what motor you actually have. Then you can click on this link and see which product suits your needs best. Yes, basically there are two sections of the timing belt cover. The cover is not simply the piece that shields the cam gears. That's only the top section of the timing belt cover assembly.
