A/C disable when defrosting [Merged 9-6]

Yeah I know the purpose behind it. But I never recirc and Ive never had a problem with foggy windows in my other cars (they didnt have the a/c automatically come on). I was thinking that theres a switch in the vent selector knob that I should be able to disable.

Yeah - if you don't recirc, then that's why it doesn't fog up your windows.

I'm sure if you played with the wiring in the dash a little, you could find a way to disable it.

With the 1G's, the A/C switch and the A/C relay are both controlled by a wire that goes to the ECU. This would be the best way to do it, so that the ECU doesn't think the A/C is on. Otherwise, you'll get a high idle when the ISC compensates for the A/C it thinks is on, but isn't.

Uh I dont want to disable the A/C completely. I just dont want it on when my defroster is on. Otherwise I would just remove the whole system. But I like being comfy in the summer.

I hate having the A/C come on whenever I turn my vent controls to the defrost position. Thats where I would like it to be at most, but I do not want my A/C on all the time. Does anyone know how I can disable this little "feature".
Unplug the switch on the heater control assembly. It's on the defrost control.

Odd, but we need the AC to get the defroster to work worth a damn all the way down here.

so my first 2g gst died and i just got this new clean white gst 40k mileage with some 18s wheel for 8 grand :p but the only thing is that i cant turn off the ac. the green light on the ac button turns on whenever i turn on the venting switch, even with the ac button on the off position. any one know what is wrong with it?

If the blower switch is on and it's in a defrost position, this enables the A/C. If the A/C light is on with blower on and not defrost position, the defroster switch is probably shorted (stuck on).

Ever since i had my 95 TSI, every winter it seems that whenever im drivin the car the windows fog up. Not ill put on the deefroster and on high blast on high heat and everything and that seems to make it worse. Whats the best way to keep ## windows from fogging up? Also is there any kind of stuff u can buy to spray on the windows to prevent the fogging. if you know of any itd be great to share it. Thanks.

A couple factors might in this...does anyone smoke in your car? Was the person who owned the car before you a smoker? The "film" or residue from the smoke will stick to the window and cause this. You need heavy duty glass cleaner to get it off. Just a possibility :)

I had the same problem with another non-DSM car that I had several years ago.
The only thing that seemed to help was to actually turn the A/C on high and blast it thru the front vents by the windshield. Blasting heated air through those vents seemed to make the problem actually worse. It was the colder air that cleared it up.

To keep it from fogging, I would leave the windows cracked about 1inch....

I am not aware of anything available that you can apply to your windows to prevent fogging, but if anyone has that information, I'd like to hear about that as well ;)

Quite possible. Have seen it in alot of cars. Julia and I both smoke, but as a rule dont even think of smoking in the car.

Make sure the vent setting is on the setting which gets fresh air from outside. Put it on the defog setting as well. Dont turn the heat up all the way, have it on "warm"...

My car used to do the same thing. Try moving the knob farthest on the right. The one that has 2 settings, one is an arrow that goes down and under the other one does a 180. I went all last winter with my car like that in Iowa before someone told me to move it.

on 2G's when you put it to the defrost setting it automatically turns the A/C on as well

Rain-X makes an anti-fog treatment that you can try. of course just like cleaning the inside of the windshield it's a PITA to apply because of the angle of the windshield.

Turn on the A/C...set it around the warm area.

It'll suck out the moisture in the car pretty quickly.

Damn you 2g owners! You get all the 'goodies'. haha.

I will give that Rain-X stuff a try.....I didn't know about that. Thanks, LOL.

Select to draw air from OUTSIDE, not circulate it from inside. Moisture is building up inside the car, that's your problem. Draw air from OUTSIDE and keep your front windshield defogger on low. When the car is warmed up, keep warm air coming, STILL FROM OUTSIDE.

You can always drive the car with windows slightly or more open until the car warms up, then throw on the heater--STILL DRAWING AIR FROM OUTSIDE, NOT CIRCULATING IT.

This is in owner's manuals, by the way.

also..i've heard of this as a common problem on the wrx's. check the rain guard (rubber piece on your door) and see if there are any cracks/slits. if so, cold air could be getting into the car and fogging up the windows.

yeah for some reason my ac will come on when i use deforst and begin that its cold out side it takes forever to melt the frost on the window.

but when i trun it to vents the ac gose off and heat is on is this normal cause none of my talons do this.

It's "defrost," and that's normal. It takes humidity out of the air so windshield defrosting is more effective.

Cold air works better at defrosting windows, you can't disable the AC from coming on once you switch your vent controls to the winshield. I removed my entire AC system and that's pretty much the only way you can truly disable the AC.

Or, if you think it'd help (it won't), just unplug the microswitch on the heater control which contacts when you turn to defrost.

i will just leave it like it is i guess i just thought maybe something was screwed up cause my talons never did this but if its normal i will leave it alone.

if it isnt broke dont fix it ;)
