Hey guys I have been contemplating doing an a/c delete on my 97 Talon. The a/c works pretty decent at night and ok (at best) during the day... I plan on this being a mostly strip and occasional street car in the future.

So this gets me to my question, does anyone have any regrets (mostly What I'm interested in) or positives they got from deleting their a/c?

Thanks for any input!

My 1991 Talon had a bad compressor for a couple of months one summer in Missouri and it was horrible. It all depends on where you are in the country and how often you drive it. If you take one drive in Georgia in August you will not do it again. Just my opinion.

I live in southeastern KS and believe me, I know what you guys mean. The humidity around my parts gets absolutely horrible, but even with my working a/c I've only used it a total of 4 times this summer and 2 times was because I just got my windows tinted and couldnt roll them down In the heat. But i have 3 cars and this one along with my camaro are just my play toys and my spyder GST is going to be my DD Here in a couple months when I'm finished with it so I'm not real concerned about not having a/c... I do realize it will be stupid hot out where I live but when the a/c is on the car has NO power due to my bc280 cams and that's something I hate!

Hope you don't have leather seats. They feel bad when you'r soaked in sweat on a hot day. Have seen "mats" made of large beads that are supposed to provide some air flow for your back. Wished i had one for the GS. Even with no doors and cloth seats the back side was getting pretty soaked during summer.

This is what i'm talking about:

I have no a/c and I live in the Kansas City area. I will say that leather seats make it worse on your back and ass, but once your moving it's fine. Now I do have my windows tinted with 5% tint and that is what makes the biggest difference.

My heater is stuck to on (temperature adjuster is broken), the fan wont shut off even when you turn it off, the car is black.

After a 25min drive on the highway to work, I am sweaty, no one likes riding in my car because its loud and hot.

But I love it :). Its all personal preference and depends on where you live, as stated above.

Unfortunately I do have leather but my 15% tint helps keep the inside cool while I'm not in it and when I'm driving I'm usually not going slower than 40 so i get decent air flow.... But I know Exactly what you are talking about, that leather gets all hot and nasty and uncomfortable with sweat when you don't get airflow to it :/

Hmm well even when i turn the temp control to cold I still get hot air... Maybe that could be why my a/c isn't the best LOL... If it was my only car I would debate a lot harder about keeping the a/c, but hey what can I say. I like to go fast LOL

Maybe. Go under the center console, passenger side and pull off that side cover. On the big black box, just behind the stereo you'll see a piece of metal sticking upwards. Pushing it towards the drivers side makes it colder, and vise versa. Its held on by a little piece of plastic that can break easily. In the morning I can post a picture if needed.

How much weight is it going to take off? You really think you'll feel a difference? Don't be silly, keep your A/C and just get more HP from some power adders. You're going to regret it when a woman is like 'wheres your a/c' LOL

Haha Lol this car won't be driven on the street often so i don't have to worry about what the woman says :thumb:... My goal is 9's while still Having a streetable car so a/c I'm pretty sure It's just gonna be a sooner or later thing.

A picture would be much appreciated!! I will have to investigate this and if I can move it to the drivers side and further than I'll keep the a/c for a little longer to test it out ;)

I just finished taking mine off and I don't regret one bit of it. Not only does it free up some loss hp, one less belt, lighter overall weight, it also cleans the hexx out of the engine bay. And if its a strip car then it's not really needed. I dd mine and I can't even use it because of high temps. I usually run with the heater on LOL. But I should be getting a bigger radiator soon. I don't think you'll regret it bro.

The only regrets about my car are the power steering and a/c.

I can't drive it in summer, basically. It is with no exaggeration, torture.

If I were you, I'd get the smaller accessory pulleys and just make up for it with engine power

If this is going to be a mostly strip car anyways, just take off all the a/c components and plug up the drier, condenser, compressor, evaporator. Put it back on when you want to. You can loan a vacuum pump from autozone to recharge it later. So really, ## just going to be out 2 cans of refrigerant.

When I use to have my old car. I deleted the ac. Biggest mistake ever.
It's not like it's gonna add horse power or shave 1 second off your time slip. When summer hits over 100 constantly where I live. I need it. The only down fall I would see in using ac is gas mileage. But other then that, psh, lesson learned. Never gonna do it ever again. And if you do decide to sell the car, guess what. There goes the value to the potential buyer. When I tried to sell my old car. No one wanted to buy it because all they asked about was ac.

Solid advice, OP you should listen to him. A/c delete will remove maybe 10 - 25 lbs if your lucky.

And if you ever want to sell it down the line you'd have that same problem!

If you just get a bigger turbo you'd have more power and still keep the A/C, you don't need to 'turn it on' if you don't want to.

If you really are going to have this car as a 'trailer queen drag strip warrior' then sure take everything off and make it super light weight.

My old car. I only moved like 20 lbs the most. If 20 lbs seems to much for you at the track. Just have less gas when you run. Also get a lot of complaints when you have guest in the car also LOL

Yeah 20 lbs ain't worth it. But fun fact, each gallon of gas weighs about 6lbs. So remove 4 gallons before and that's 24 lbs and you kept your A/C :thumb:

I bought my talon missing a lot of the a/c components, I removed what was left of it. Only thing left for the a/c is the known for hot and cold and the button!

I think it was totally worth it! Except for when its 100+ outside and you are stuck in traffic, other than that I love not having it. More room under the hood, looks cleaner, easier to work on, less things to break, etc...

Now my truck on the other hand has all of the a/c and it works! So why do I need it in all my vehicles? :D

I have a black 2g. Black interior. Black leather Recaros. I live by the beach in Florida. I haven't had A/C for over 2 years, and its my DAILY DRIVER.

Suck it up and remove it, LOL.
