Hey guys I have been contemplating doing an a/c delete on my 97 Talon. The a/c works pretty decent at night and ok (at best) during the day... I plan on this being a mostly strip and occasional street car in the future.

So this gets me to my question, does anyone have any regrets (mostly What I'm interested in) or positives they got from deleting their a/c?

Thanks for any input!

Removing the AC, power steering, ABS and cruise control was the best thing I did. It makes the car a whole hell of a lot cleaner, plus it makes working on it 100% easier to work on.
Just put your windows down and enjoy the hot air LOL.

Since its mainly a strip car youre probably looking at going side exit exh so i say delete the a/c and PS. Relocate alt and you have a nice clean path towards the drivers side bumper exit.

I have a black 2g. Black interior. Black leather Recaros. I live by the beach in Florida. I haven't had A/C for over 2 years, and its my DAILY DRIVER.

Suck it up and remove it, LOL.

I like that attitude Lol!! :thumb:

It may be hot as hell out where i live but only if your sitting still and not moving. Luckily I have an alternator relocation kit with a bran new alt. In it, just waiting to go on... And ABS blah, who needs it? A good driver can stop the car better than a computer can and will clean up TONS of room of I can delete my ABS as well.

Right now I'm wanting to lightening the car, and clean up the engine bay while the car is apart for the turbo to be rebuilt.

Thanks for all of the opinions guys (and girls LOL)

Side exit would be great!! It's just not going to happen just yet... After everything is the way I want it and It's not driven very often I'll start flirting with the idea of deleting the p/s and relocating the altornator

I love my a/c but the reason I'm thinking about deleting it is the fact that it doesnt get cold enough during the heat of the scorching day, I still break a sweat with it on full blast and pointed at my face... And It's full of freon :/

I aree with 1992 eagle talon tsi it gives you more room under hood and i remove a/c out of every dsm i own or my buddies own and if you go to car shows it looks so much cleaner with out it in there and like jaxness said suck it up and remove it...and just to let you know i live in nebraska and our weather is almost the same in the summer...and if i remember it takes like thirty pounds out of the cars wieght since you want to lighten the car anyway

You'll get used to it, I don't think is too bad, I'm used to the heat since I already work at a hot and humid meat packing palnt. I didn't regret getting rid of it. You'll be fine with the windows down.

First thing I did was rip out the a/c. Altho having another dd car with a/c is a good idea owning a dsm that and it always breaking all the time. But a/c is for panzys.

I just got rid of my a/c and cruise control and love how much cleaner the engine looks without it. You won't even miss it. Do it! Do it ! Do it! Do it!

In my personal car? Hell no, im keeping ac. And if it isnt cooling you down enough then get it charged. It should do the trick.DSM's blowers are relatively weak compared to other vehicles but mine works just fine in 100* weather. Had it vac'd and charged last year. Worth every penny.

In motorcycles it went: 7lbs= 1hp. So if thats true in cars and you are worried about the ~30lbs then just add about 4.5hp LOL. I know when youre on the strip its a different story but at that point all the glass is gone and the car is sitting around 2300lbs curb wt. So the AC is a small small piece of the puzzle as far as weight loss goes.

BTW, my High setting on my blower is out(bad switch) so i only have the first 3 settings and it STILL cools me down. Im near the river valley and summer here near stl is about as hot and humid as anywhere in the entire country. Charge it first, then see if you still wanna shave that 30lbs.

1. Its one less thing to go wrong/one less belt
2. These cars are heavy pigs and could use losing the 40lbs.
3. Makes room to relocate your alternator
4. Cleans up the engine bay a shit ton.

So my vote is yes, toss it.

my dreamt dsm When I use to have my old car. I deleted the ac. Biggest mistake ever.
It's not like it's gonna add horse power or shave 1 second off your time slip. When summer hits over 100 constantly where I live. I need it. The only down fall I would see in using ac is gas mileage. But other then that, psh, lesson learned. Never gonna do it ever again. And if you do decide to sell the car, guess what. There goes the value to the potential buyer. When I tried to sell my old car. No one wanted to buy it because all they asked about was ac.

In fact in would free up some horsepower. It will be one less thing the motor will have to take hp to turn. And I doubt he is worried about a potential buyer when this is a track car that is going to be potentially going 9s. He mentioned that it is going to be a track car and maybe some street driving.

my dreamt dsm My old car. I only moved like 20 lbs the most. If 20 lbs seems to much for you at the track. Just have less gas when you run. Also get a lot of complaints when you have guest in the car also

If done right it would remove 30-38lbs. I recently took mine off and so far I have removed 36lbs and still have a couple lines and fitting to take off. Think about it, the bracket, all bolts/washers/nuts, lines, condessor, pump, the little thing behind the driver side headlight, belt and other misc things it all adds up. Also again I doubt he will have complaints with guests in the car while he is racing.

To the op, about time LOL. Trust everyone that said you won't regret it. I think some missed the part about it being a potential 9s beast. Yea less gasa in the tank is going to help, but so will an extra 30-38lbs, less maintenance, and one less thing the engine has to use power to turn. I can see if maybe its going to be a 9s full interior street car, but its not. Good luck on your build and I can't wait to see that 9s pass.

Sounds like you already made your decision. Remove the A/C and enjoy.

i got mine pulled out on my 95 gsx and i live in el paso and it really isnt that bad. currently deployed in Afghanistan and it was 120 degrees in my tent today.... so after surviving deployment i think ill be fine rolling down the windows and opening the sun roof.
