So my 95 Talon AWD is in need of an A/C compressor. My question is where do I get a new compressor? I’m thinking maybe getting one from someone who deleted their A/C but would love opinions. Also do I need to make sure it’s for a 95? I read somewhere the 97-99 is different

    Yes 95, 96 are different then 97, 99.
A used one from a member here or a junkyard is the place to look.

So you think used would be better than a refurbished one or non oem? I see performance partout sells them for $25 a pop. I’m just worried something used might go out again and have to pay someone to service it again.

I'd just get refurbished especially if you're paying full price to evac and charge the system. Make sure they add dye when they charge it so if there's another leak, you'll be able to see it.

Oem is quality but obviously age kills it, but a $25 price on a remanufacture is a great option.

The one for $25 is not reman i talked to performance partout and they said it’s so cheap because they don’t have a way of testing it, anyone not familiar with them they run a website that parts out different cars and sells the parts online. They did however say they would find me the cleanest best looking one they had and send pictures of it. The only hang up I’m having is like @tk106 said, I’ll be paying a shop to properly install everything I’d hate to have that done and it be a bad compressor. Hopefully someone with experience in having this done before can tell me the route they went.

Check Rockauto for a replacement. You have to decide if you are willing to go used and end up doing the job again down the road if it goes bad. Same goes for replacement parts, just because its new or reman, doesn't always mean it will last.

What is the problem you are having with yours? If the compressor failed then you need to replace the expansion valve and receiver/drier. Looking up the condenser in my catalog shows it is highly recommended based on design but doesn't actually say its a parallel flow design. (Don't see this suggestion often, usually it states required as it is parallel flow) Having said that, I would recommend condenser replacement if compressor failure occurred. The system should be flushed while the lines are open as well.

On the other hand, if your a/c clutch is what failed. You can replace the compressor and "get away" with it.

The problem is the air is not cold anymore and a recharge didn’t help, I figured that meant new compressor time because that’s what happened with another car of mine before. I will be taking it to my mechanic first to see if I’m correct about the compressor or what needs to be changed. It’s hot as hell here in Indiana this time around and I wanted to know where I should get my compressor now so if I need one I can order the day I find out if I need it or not.

I may just go with rock auto or soemthing with a warranty and say f*** it.

You need to see if the A/C is actually being requested. If it is then you should have voltage to the a/c clutch. If you have voltage and the a/c clutch doesn't engage then you have a problem with the clutch. I am assuming you have looked to see if the hub of the compressor is turning or not? Not the pulley but the center hub of the compressor.

To be honest I’ve done nothing but try to recharge it. Is there a write on how to diagnose?

They sell recharge bottles that has dye in it. Like asexton said, check to see if the clutch is engaging first. If it is, charge it and then go around with a black light to see where it’s leaking from.

First, who or what did you use to attempt to recharge it? We need to make sure you have the correct charge to even engage the compressor.

Pfft. He's taking it to a shop, hes obviously not worried about actually fixing the problem

    Basics to check

Is the AC condenser fan turning on when the AC button is pressed?

Is the AC compressor making an audible click to engage the AC compressor?

What is the maximum pressure reading on the cold side while the compressor is engaged?

It stupifies me why you would think a compressor is bad just because the AC isn't cold. The AC compressor just generates freon pressure

The $12 AC drier is usually the problem if the AC pressures are good but the AC isn't cold

The $22 expansion valve is usually the problem if the high side pressure is too high

If the fan isn't even turning on it won't trigger the AC compressor
