Hey all, i noticed a few weeks ago I noticed that my A/C belt is MIA. Guessing the previous owner removed the belt for whatever reason. I have a few questions about instaling a new one. I know there is usually a belt tensioner, but I cant seem to find where it is on the 4g63? I tried moving something with a wrench hole in it but it just rotated the belts.

Also, While trying to get the damn belt in there, how are you supposed to get it on the ac compressor wheel? It seems like it's jammed between the engine and the strut tower, which makes getting it on a serious PITA. I noticed there is something that moves in between the ac compressor and the harmonic balancer, its a smaller wheel, about 2 inches in diameter and attached to an arm that can move. The funny thing about it, is if this is the tensioner, why does it freely move? I cant feel any resistance when i try to move it. Anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone have any suggestions for changing this sucker out? Does anyone have any experience changing these belts? Thanks guys!

Under the hood, look down from driver-side to the right-side of the top timing cover. Under the A/C hoses (use a light) you will see the A/C tensioner pulley. It may or may not have the adjustment bolt in it, since they seem to frequently go mia due to not being jammed tight once the slide and pivot bolts are tightened. As to putting on the belt, that is easiest from underneath once you remove the splash shield.

The tensioner can move freely, i'm not sure if thats supposed to be that way? I can lay down under the car, and push the tensioner up and it moves with no hesitation and stays where i push it to, does that sound typical? Also, i got the V-ribbed belt for the ac, but I cannot figure out how to get the other belts off, as i cannot find where the other belts tensioners are. I can only see the one above and to the left of the ac compressor.

Ill try to post a vid tomorrow if i can get the car on stands again. gotta chase down yet another oil leak :sigh:
