finally howell sells an afx ecu for the 98 and 99 eclipse 420a's. my question is.. is this afx ecu worth the 540 dollar price? will it work good with my current setup? i have a rebuilt motor with eagle rods, wiseco 10:5 pistons. and a stock head (will upgrade to cam gears and cam shafts soon).... any input will be appreciated.. thanks..

I've only heard good things about these AFX ECU's.
From what it says on the website it will "learn" from driving it at part throttle for a few dozen miles and it will adapt to modifications.
It is really cool that they finally made these for more than just 97's.:rocks:
Now if only they had one for early 95's.:hmm:
Still this is really good new info...

At least I'd be excited about it I had a 97+.

Its one of the best "bolt on" additions you can have. You will gain power. I matched the dyno curve of the AFX ECU and my car professionally tuned on MSnS and they were very close numbers and curves (its posted on here somewhere).

BUT, I'll believe that they have an AFX ECU for the 99 when I see it. I haven't seen it yet.

Hey I kind of have the same question I have a 97 5 speed with headers, cold air intake, exhaust, msd ignition, port and polished head, and 30lb fuel injectors. Will the AFX Ecu do anything for me? Im just wondering if this bolt on would be worth the money and improve my performance. Thanks in advance

He says it all in the first sentence.
One of the best "bolt ons" you can get.:thumb:

I was looking at that i thought wow its great definately looking to buy and like you guys said, 1 of the best bolt ons,,,,thx viper

Its listed on the Howell website but who knows if it works or not. I would assume since they sell it, it will work.
Yeah, I know its on the website. I just haven't actually seen it yet :hmm: My paranoid suspicion wonders, LOL.

If they really have it, it will work well.

Bumping up an old thread here, but they have the 95 ECUs listed on their page now. But when you view it it says fits 97 only. Can anyone verify if it will work in the 95s?

A 97 ECU will not work with a 95. You will need to call them to find out if they have an ECU available for the 95.

Also, if anybody wants to send me an AFX ECU for a 99, I'll test it out on the track with my daily driver (to see if I can get 14's out of it) and then send it back to you.

what are the best supporting mods for this ecu and does it have to be tuned? thx

the ecu self tunes itself by driving so many miles. its pretty much a cheaper route to go than going to get ## car tuned after every mod you make.

it took my close to a month for me to get mine, with 2day shipping, of course that was for the 97, not 99... still waiting on my core refund. As for the nitrous question, i think if you search AFX ECU you should come across a thread that they talk about that... or i could do it for u real quick and....

kit then nitrous kit, it will give your more hp per $$.

The afx ecu can be ran with a turbo no problem. It does advance timing, but it also takes away the factory fuel cut rev limit and replaces it with a higher ignition cut revlimiter. Boost + fuel cut = lean which then = detonation. this is why most turbo neons use an afx ecu.

i ran the afx ecu with a 75shot no problem. went thru about 5 bottles.

was wondering does anyone have a current price on the unit for the 99,s thx viper

My prayers have been answered! :applause:
Howell now makes the AFX ECU for all 420A eclipses!
I just e-mailed them to make sure that the 95 unit will work, on my early 95 with a 94 build date.
So now I'm waiting on a response from them and if it is all good I will be getting one.:hellyeah:

Holy crap! I was just logging on to find this thread, LOL.

I wanted to ask Dave if he ever received his and, if so, how did it work.

So what says you Dave?
