I recently started having issues with starting my car. For some reason at random times it wont turn on though the starter attempts to start the car. The car also seems to cut off when I get to a red light or stop signs not every time but it has happen a couple of times. This is not a consatn issue as their are days where it turns on just fine and maintains itself all day. There are also times where it briefly turns on then turns off, I turn the key a second time and it turns on without a issue. This issue like I said is not constant.

The check engine light is not on but I did hook u a code reader on the computer and it gives a code P0433 EVAP soleniod but like I said the light is not on. Im not sure if those two are related or not. PLease help me out as this is becoming a headache.

:banghead:

I'm no mechanic but sounds to me like a faulty battery or maybe alternator. Clean the battery terminals and make sure they are not loose, and of it persists get your battery checked. Auto parts stores can also check an alternator while the car is running. I'd say start with that, my buddy had the same issue, he replaced his battery and he was good to go.

:aha: Do some basic diagnostic work. Do you have fuel pressure? Does the car sputter out when it dies? Does the RPM do anything drastic? Does it lack power? Does it sound funny? Have you done any mods just before the symptoms started? Have you looked into issues with your charcoal canister and how it hooks to the intake?

98EVOECLIPSE: The car cranks for him in every instance. Why would this lead you to believe the problem to be in the charging or battery system?

GSTurbo1: EGR isn't part of the fuel systems purge solenoid. While it could be leaking, the code isn't necessarily related to the EGR valve since it has it's own batch of codes to throw.

Throwing my 2 cents in here: I had similar issues, except i was getting an engine light, yours might be burnt out. Anyways it threw a different code pretty much every day, very annoying. After a little research :heystupid: turned out to be the IAC

So Id say check alternator and battery, check the grounds, and if thats not it maybe the IAC

yah , if you block off the egr , then you can take out the charcoal can and eliminate the vacume lines.

?Huh? These are two different unassociated systems. He is showing an EVAP code here fellas. EVAP not EGR. If he was to pull his ldp etc for the EVAP he would definitely throw a cel and he would still have the other starting issues.

OP your descriptors are a little confusing with the "off" and "on". Could you use "turn over" (as in the starter turns the engine around) and "run" (as in the car started up and is running).

From what I'm understanding you don't have a charging problem, you have a problem with the car "running", correct?

The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission. The purge valve solenoid is supplied switched battery voltage. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage pulled low, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open in the circuit, this code is set.

P0443 trouble code symptoms could be just an malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. There may be no drivability problems at all. But, it's also possible to have a lean condition or a rough running engine if the purge valve is stuck open. Usually though, these symptoms are accompanied by other EVAP codes. Another symptom may be excessive pressure in the gas tank in the form of a "whooshing" sound when the cap is removed, indicating a purge valve that isn't working at all or stuck closed.

To cause a P0443, there has to be a problem with the purge control CIRCUIT, not necessarily the valve. Usually they are a unit housing the valve and the solenoid as an assembly. Or it could be comprised of a separate solenoid with vacuum lines to a purge valve. That said, it could be any of the following:

-Bad purge solenoid (internal short or open)
-Wiring harness chafing or rubbing another component causing short or open on control circuit
-Connector worn, broken or shorted due to water intrusion
-Driver circuit inside powertrain control module (PCM) is bad

hope this helps:)
