I just recently bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 420A with a 5 speed manual but it started to not start after being driven gently. I've checked all vacuum lines and replaced them, I replaced the MAF sensor spark plugs and the coil and I can't figure this out.

It seems like a daily issue for 420a owners. It won't start or starts then dies or was running then runs rough. There are way to many of these threads that lead to a dead end, so if you do end up finding the issue definitely report back so others can see if theres has the same issue.

These cars don't have a MAF so I'm assuming you replaced the MAP sensor? When it doesn't start are you testing fuel pressure like mentioned above? That's in actually hooking up a fuel pressure gauge. If you have fuel pressure I'd check spark next.

Have you tried hooking up a scan tool to see if there are any codes?

If the car threw an O2 sensor code that could definitely cause issues.

I've never heard of the manifold or header on a 420a getting the ECU too hot. Unless it has a crack or the gasket is blown out and throwing exhaust right at it its highly unlikely. Anything is possible though, I just wouldn't point at that for the number 1 issue as of now. I have personally ran into a bad ECU on my 95.

If it were me I'd toss a new O2 sensor in and then go from there. I recently found out if your low on gas you'll get an O2 sensor code along with a lean bank 1 so things can set it off.

Mine had issues starting and I replaced the battery cable to the starter and it fixed the issue. The cable would get hot and not want to turn over.

UPDATE it turns out to be the Camshaft position sensor having an intermittent failure.
