I picked up a 95 gsx with 185000 miles on it. The previous owner did an engine swap so it really has like 30000 miles. So far I have replaced pretty much all the suspension parts and moving on to the engine. I am new to dsm's so I don't really know what all I need like boost controllers, injectors...etc. I have a fmic and 16g turbo so far. I just don't know what all I need to make this car sweet, I don't have hp goals just my first car.

Rossford, eh? Not to far from me!

Welcome to the world of DSM's. First and foremost, make sure all of the regular matainence is done on the car. At 30k, check the condition of your timing belt and such... those need to be done at about 60k, but never hurts to check! These are interference engines, so better safe than sorry.

To run the 16g to its full potential, you'll need a few more things.
1. Wideband of some sort, to monitor your A/F ratio
2. 550cc or bigger injectors. This really depends on what you want, power wise. You can start with 550's and go from there.
3. Larger fuel pump. A 190 at minimum.. a 255 if you want room to grow. However, you'll need a FPR to regulate the 255.
4. Some sort of tuning device. If you have an early 95, you may have the EPROM ECU. If you do, then defiantly look into DSMLink. It's fantastic and worth every dime!
5. Oh yeah.. some sort of boost controller.
6. Exhaust helps too, if you don't have one on there already.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head... Check out the VFAQ's and such for more information. There's a ton our there if you want to do a little search.

Again, welcome and good luck. Post pics. :)

I've got a Megan turbo back exhaust.
What do all those things do. What is a boost controller?
I'm really new to dsm's.

The boost controller lets you see the boost pressure. The car comes with a factory setting which the computer uses a boost control solenoid to control. Its around 12psi. The aftermarket one will let you change this.

As for the other things, in short... they all work together to allow you to run more boost pressure safely and effectively. You need to have you air/fuel ratio within a certain range or you can cause severe damage. So the Wideband 02 sensor will let you monitor that. The DSMLink is software that lets you change timing maps, add fuel, and such to compensate for more boost pressure. Of course, all the fuel items will let you get more fuel to the engine. More air (i.e. more turbo boost pressure) means you need more fuel... or once again, you will run too lean and blow things up.

Do you have any pictures of the car and its engine? Heck, you might already have some of these things on there since the 16g is a very common upgrade path.

I guess it's kind-of like a balancing act.

If you need any help at all, I live in Waterville. Just shoot me a PM and we can work it out. I have a 98 gsx with a 6 bolt swap running about 570 AWHP and I've built several DSM's. Just let me know.

I'd be happy to give you a ride and show you what these cars are capable of

I was gonna take it to this place called pure-tuning and have them make it right. I have pictures but I don't know how to upload them. That would be sweet. Maybe you could help me with my car too. I'm so new to dsm's it would help so much

Pure-Tuning is a good shop and Keith the owner is a good guy he knows what he's talking about but there is no need to spend that kind of money. Evil and I are close by and would definitely help you out, maybe we can cruize as well. Like I said when your ready just PM me.

Ok thanks. I need somebody to see it and tell me exactly what I need. The previous owner did the 16g swap so I don't know if he put new injectors or anything. I'm pretty sure he has some type of ecu but I don't know.I'm going to try to get ahold of him and see what all he has in the car.

yeah definitely contact the previous owner, being a 95 it probably has an E-Prom ECU which means ECM Link may be on it or if not atleast it would be $200 cheaper.

If you indeed have a 16g regarless of which one, to "optimise" your setup. Yes you will need bigger injectors, someway to tune (SAFC, ECMLink, etc), fuel pump, Boost gauge, Boost controller, Blow off valve, FIPK. Thats really it since you have a turbo back, and we could just "whore out" your current exhaust mani, or just have mine. Although helpful you don't need a wide band and the 2g maf is fine for a 16g. Other things like UICP or FMIC are nice to have but you can get away with the stock stuff. If you are looking into an entire FMIC kit, check out punishments kit for like $400, I've personnely installed this kit on a buddys 97 and it went on with almost no modification.

Just PM me so we can get together, I'll take a good look at the car and we can go from there. I have fun doing this and helping Noobs :D out so don't worrie about it.
