Im looking into getting a ‘95 Eclipse GST when it first starts it idles and revs okay for about 10 seconds then it starts surging and when you give it throttle sounds like its going to cut out when its wide open throttle, the selling says he thinks its an ecu because he opened up the ecu and seen some burnt/melted spots. Im just curious what an experienced DSM owner thinks.

I think it could be anything

Unless you are an experienced mechanic, walk away.

Hope that helps.

Its for $300 so i wouldnt mind working on it and fixing it. The guy that has it thinks its an ecm problem but bought the wrong ecm

Well fixed the idle surge, a bad water pump and now trying to figure the slow acceleration and rough idle, although the car does need motor mounts

Buy it. You could smartly have less than a few hundred into it and make a profit, or make it a fun car for not a lot of money.

Looks to be mostly stock as well, so depending on what you wanna do with it, I say it's a good deal and could be fixed up nice.

I did buy it! It just going to be a fun car for me and my girlfriend to mess around with and build a little bit so we spend a little bit less time driving my jeep srt around LOL. I went to the local junkyard today and got a power tr unit and now it idles and drives. Still a little slow building up to about 2500 rpm, i havent done a boost leak test yet but it seems healthy and sounds good Has a slight issue starting for the first 2 or 3 starts it wont idle but the next start after its fine. Im thinking of replacing the fuel filter aswell as the fuel pump even if they are good. The person that owned this car before had the wrong plug wires and the firing order wasnt right. Aswell as whatever they did to the throttle body it looked like they didnt want to replace the gaskets so they used gorilla glue or something. Also what are your thoughts on deleting the EGR?

Well, I wish you luck. $300 isn't bad but it sounds like the previous owner had absolutely no idea what they were doing. You may be finding lots of screw ups a long the way. I just hope they didn't rebuild the engine like they did on my car.

Sounds like you're finding alot of goodies already, p/o's have sucked in my experience, I've had to fix so much stupid stuff it's ridiculous.

As far as deleting the egr, I have a cyclone manifold so it doesn't have it, and I tapped the port on the head for an npt plug. If you have emissions regs, don't delete it. If you don't have regs, do as you please!
