What's going on everyone. Been a little while but back into another DSM. I just got a 92 Talon TSi awd turbo 6bolt. I want to change the timing belt and water pump etc. My question is can someone give me a definitive list of all the parts. T belt water pump, idler, idler adjuster, tensioner as well as balance shaft belt and tensioner.

I'm looking at the Gates timing belt and water pump kit. Includes 2 belts, 2 tensioners, 1 idler, and water pump. And the separate gates tensioner adjuster and then the balance shaft belt and tensioners.

Thanks any help would be appreciated

Definite list, they have kits on vendor sites for everything you need. Have you looked at extreme psi, or jnz tuning, its only a few parts.

Even though that gates kit is the cheaper route you should go with all oem parts for you timing belt. Sure its a bit more expensive but they will last longer and hold up better then any aftermarket parts you can get.

Thanks for all the fast response. I plan on doing oem! What are the pluses to balance shaft delete kit or should I just leave it as is?

The pros of having the balance shaft deleted are that it is easier to time. Also you don't have to worry about the balance shaft belt breaking and taking the timing belt with it.

However if the motor is still in the car I would just buy a new balance shaft and install it with all the other parts. Getting the balance shaft out of the block can be quiet a pain with the engine still in the car. I believe the vfaq.com has the process you would want to follow if you do plan on removing them.

Yes the motor is still in the car. Just picked the car up. Only has 60k on it and I want to do the t belt water pump and all associated maint parts

Sounds good, I would skip the bse unless you remove the engine pita. at least change the bse belt and you should be good corey from stm 7 block had the bs belt still in the car, replace it and call it a day.

I would add in a couple of 8x1.25mm short studs. Make it easy to reinstall the double pulleys. After you have two bolts in, remove the studs and install the other two bolts. PITA to try and line the holes up without them.

For the BS eliminator, I left my front shaft in place, just cut the belt. The stubby shaft is the same as a Mirage. Believe its from the 1.6 or 1.8 motor. Been so long ago I can't remember. Leaving the front shaft in place also eliminates having to port the OFH and the head mod to get oil pressure down.

Glad you know that, very important information.

Thanks again for the help. Just going to replace the bs belt and Tensioner and then the rest of the timing components!

That's good be careful when you install the oil pan screws one or two on the timing side is tad bit long and will eat into the belt, I learned the hard way, years back. might be a good time to inspect the front case gasket, check for leaks at the seals, if you had no problems with oil pressure I would say the pump is fine, I just did a rebuild and replaced all that because the car was new to me.

Do at least some form of balance shaft elimination while you're at it. It's a very common failure point, and it'll take the rest of your engine with it.
