i have a 92 awd turbo laser......the car had been sitting for 6 months. it had an aftermarket fuel pump with 580cc injectors with a ported and polished and clipped turbo with a MBC. i took out the big injectors and put stock ones back in so i had only the aftermarket fuel pump in. when it runs it idles high but it doesnt really surge or anything but when you give it throttle it starts sputtering big time. it blows smoke and you can smell the gas. if you slowly rev the motor up the rpms go up fine. i went to drive it and when you put a load on it the car doesnt do well. if i stay into the throttle even with the sputtering and bucking it will all of a sudden kick in and take off for a second then stop and then take off.

ive been on this thing for a straight week everynite....i got the TPS checked and its good, the timing is fine, i found the crank/cam angle off 180 degrees and fixed it, put the fpr from buschur on bc of fuel pump, all vaccum lines are hooked up correctly, i tried another MAS, checked the coil packs and they're good, i checked to make sure the wastegate actuator was moving with a blow gun and thats workikn fine.

any help would be great. i found one or two threads that had a very similar sounding problem but there were no responses so i figured id try otherwise off to an auto place.

thanx

You went back to stock with the injectors, thus your aftermarket FP is WAY too powerful for them. If you put the stock FP back in, or find a way to reduce the fuel pressure to the rail, you'd prob get things back to balance.

When you said that you smell gas odor, that's a good sign of running terribly rich for starters-why of the sputtering and no power.

No, stock fuel pump is not enough to even max out stock injectors.

Was it running with the 580's? If it was running with the 580's and you went to 450's you should be lean. How were the 580's compensated?

Have you checked your fuel pressure? If you have the fuel pressure set at stock, 450's will run like stock no matter what pump you have pushing them.

Assuming it was running with the 580's, then rich with the 450's the next thing to check is probably a boost leak? Worth checking anyway.

Have you pulled your CEL codes?

the big injectors were in there with stock fuel pressure regulator and it was running before i got the car. when i bought the car after it sat for 6 months i got it started and it had this issue thats y i was putting all stock stuff back in. i put the aftermarket regulator in there bc someone on here said that stock injectors cnt handle an aftermarket fuel pump bc of the pressure so i put it in there to set the pressure to stock. the codes bein thrown are 14 and 24.

14- throttle positioning sensor........i got that checked and it checked out fine

24- vehicle speed sensor.......that has nothing to do with my issue

im lost on this.
