Ok i posted a previous question regarding buying a built engine or rebuilding one, Would there be any reason that I would need to use upgraded parts or could i just rebuild a 6 bolt with stock parts if i wasnt planning on going over 350-400 in any time soon? I have read good things about the stock internals holding hp if tuned properly. I just dont want to spend money on parts that I dont need to and use it on other things.

Thanks

Besides tidbits here an there (cams, HG, studs), right supporting mods and a great tune....the stock internals will be able to see 30psi and a near 600WHP.

im going to be picking up a 6bolt block, should i just rip it down and inspect the internals to reuse them and just redo like the headgasket, piston rings and all that stuff? or should i buy all new internals and use those.

If I was you, I'd make sure everything's workin right then I'd machine the rods a bit to fit the 2G pistons. As they are more robust and they do have a comp. ratio that is more "turbo-friendly."

I've never heard the 600hp number. I'm pretty sure the stock rods have a limitation of about 400-450 as far as I've heard. Also, the 2g pistons aren't necessarily more boost friendly. They're actually a higher compression ratio (up to 8.5:1 from the 1g 7.8:1). They're more powerful off boost though, so they help spool faster. And in response to whether or not you should tear down your new 6 bolt, I guess it depends on how much time and money you want to put into it. I spent about $300 having my 6 bolt cleaned, honed, rods recon'd and machined to fit 2g pistons. I still need to purchase all the parts to put it together and drop it in too. Sure it's a lot cheaper to just throw in a running 6 bolt, but how much do you know about the motor?

I expected you to at least say 500WHP....anything in the 400WHP is nothing to this motor. There's been numerous threads about this topic also. I'll take 8.5 over 7.8 anyday.
