Thats all up to you. All I am pointing out is that people always want to go to one extreme or the other. They either want to rebuild there motor for 500.00 dollars and then put a 100k on it, or they want to build a 2.4 stroker with a stage 10 head, and forged mufflers just to run a low 13. 90% of the people on this board dont make enough HP or run fast enough to warrant there motor and turbo setup. All that is money thrown away that could have been used for more dyno time or some place else on the car.

Ok. From what I just read we are in agreement then. I have an OEM rebuild aside from saving a few bucks with 2g ITM pistons. Thats not one extreme or the other. I say if you can save a few dollars on components that arent "mission critical" then do it. Read the reviews, ask questions, and make an informed decision based on your pocket book.

pocket book is at 2500. . . cutting out forged rods and pistons looks like it's going to save me around 400 to 600 bucks. so for me right now, thats awesome.

im still iffy on ITM or mistu though. . . mitsu for reliability, ITM for price. . . im torn.

even if i can pull some decent power and have it last a couple years . . . i dunno.

input on where to get the 2g pistons would be cool. experiences and whatnot too.

Yeah pistons are just some stupid extra piece, not really "missions critical".

Again, why chance it to save 100.00 or so bucks. I have seen, read, and made the decision already thanks.

"Roll eyes?" Thats mature.
It's a piece of metal. No moving parts. They can be stamped out cookie cutter style at best. It's not like I went out and purchased an ITM brand cylinder head. I tell you what, when I shatter an ITM brand piston or one of them decides to bite the dust you'll be the second one to know.

My post was for the "AUTHOR" of this thread that "asked" about ITM pistons not you. Now, since "I" am the one using them "I" am giving testimony to my experience. You have NO experience with them other than to bad mouth them because YOU dont have them.

Note: Everyone does not have to have the exact same parts as you do to be cool or acceptable. FYI $100 bucks is in no way small potatoes for lots of people.

listen, i didn't want to start some slap match with this.

all i wanted were some peoples opinions. i don't want my thread closed down because of a hundred dollar debate.

yes, a hundred bucks is a lot to me. BUT if that hundred bucks will get me30 or 40 thousand more miles, or allow me to push a little more boost out of my motor more safe than the "cheap alternative", im all for the extra hundred bucks. and who would make a better OE style piston than the people who made the damn motor.

i will be going with mitsu 2g pistons. therefore ending that debate.

i don't want this thread closed please, this has been a HUGE help. i would have been trying to light a wet match in a dark cave without some of the shit you guys have helped with. so thank you all very much.

ill keep everyone posted as i get more info on anything.

.

Who you decide to use is your own business but when you ask for someone's opinion on a product don't give them grief about their answer. Besides, do you think Mitsubishi pistons are made by Mitsubishi? Heck no! They outsource them. And the companies that make their pistons also make "other" pistons... go figure. And any company with the resources can get that company to make pistons for them to sell aftermarket.

Which is the better car? Eagle Talon or Mitsubishi Eclipse? Laser? They're the same freaking pile of parts. I'm done.

yes i did ask for an opinion, but i didn't say "lets open the floor for debate on the best pistons". you gave your experience with what you used, thank you.

but just as you said, you have no more right to chastise anyone for their opinion then i do. and i wasn't. i just like this thread.

for me , on my first rebuild ever, this has been one of the most informative threads. and i'd like to keep it open throughout the rest of my accumulitation of parts and build.

so please can we keep the bickering to a dull roar, or to pm's. much appreciated.

back to topic, im going to call my mechanic today to run all of this by him. get his opinion on piston and rod choice, and get a finalized pricing on the motor pull, and hopefully get an estimate from his machine shop and those costs. ill let you all know what i find out.

ok, it's an old thread of mine i know.

but here's a more recent rundown of parts i am going to order within the next week, it's been a long debating process whether or not i wanna build or go with boltons. rebuild has won.

mitsu fron case - slowboy
clevite berrings - slowboy
mitsu 1g pist. - slowboy
revised lifters - slowboy
SS ex. manny bolts - slowboy

ajusa full rebuild gasket set - JAM

i also now have a mt turbo ecu, and 450's to put in too.

2 things im still looking for are a 2g ex. manny, and a 2g o2 housing.

anything i should add? or parts i should change?

I was reading through this thread, and was curious as to what caused you to change your mind about your rebuild. It seemed you had decided on the 2G piston Mitsu OEM everything combo and now its all aftermarket stuff from Slowboy and 1G pistons. What changed your mind? I'm not saying you should do one or the other, just curious.

the only aftermarket im getting is the gasket set and berrings. front case/oilpump and pistons are both mitsu, bolts are bolts, lifters are lifters.

you can't really go wrong with clevite berrings, and the gasket set sounds really good, espically for the price compared to a mitsu rebuild set. ajusa-150, mitsu 250. and i have not heard one bad thing about the ajusa set from JAM.

as for 1g or 2g pistons. i dunno, too much hastle with not enough payoff for the 2g pistons i suppose. i would be happier for now pushing more boost, than having a slightly improved low end. and i just feel better about putting things back to stock.

I see, so what do you anticpate your costs to be now? Are you having a shop pull your engine or are you going to do it? I'm thinking of doing a rebuild in the near future myself, so am curious as to what others are doing?

lets see,

mitsu pistons - 200
ss ex. manny bolts - 45
ajusa gaskets - 150
oilpump/frontcase - 260
berrings - 100ish
lifters - 150

200 for the ecu and 450's i got. and another 50 for a 2g manny which im still looking for.

1150 approximate parts cost. leaving me 1350 for labor and machining.

im definately having a shop pull it for me. i get a deal since my mechanic is also my neighbor. so it's not a bad deal. im thinking ###### 500 to pull the motor and put it back in. ###### 500 in machining (head is also getting rebuilt).

thats just my rough estimate. i could be way off on machining costs. but thats what i figure it all to be. im just hoping i have a little left over for uicp, or custom catback. just something fun after all the work im putting in it.
