How do I tell if I have a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt?
Will x part from a 6 bolt fit a 7 bolt?
Will x part from a 7 bolt fit a 6 bolt?
Which one is better?
How do I swap my x bolt for an x bolt?

What is the difference between 6-bolt and 7-bolt engines (aside from the obvious - 6 vs. 7 bolts connecting the flywheel :p )

Is there an advantage over either of the two engines?

Thanks,

-Mike

Search on the RRE site and the Magnus site for more the broad checklist and come back when you have more specific questions. I will be glad to help you then.
I just completed the swap... look at my posts...

I have a 91 Talon TSi that I wrecked. Pretty much everything major is bad except the Engine. My question is this: Would it be possible to swap a 1997 Eclipse GST Motor for mine? If so, what kind of $ am I looking at? Thanks.
:talon: to :dsm: , It's all better than a Honda. :rocks:

Well the cars motor went after about 20k, then was rebuilt. Currently has about 85k. It's in good condition. I've ran it hard and only had one problem with it... I have to put tape on top of the ECI part. If I don't, it sucks in air and makes the motor stall out and die.

Guess I should better phrase that... I have a 90 model Talon TSi (not 91, sorry). I am wanting to buy a 97 GS-T with a blown motor. How much price and effort would it be to trade my current 90 engine with the 97. both 4G63T right?

You will have to enlarge the head bolt holes in your 7 bolt head, since the 6 bolt head uses larger diameter bolts. As far as performance goes, alot of guys love that setup and it should do you just fine if your not strictly looking for every last ounce of power from your 4g63t. :dsm:

So basically all that would be needed for the swap would be the block and flywheel? Direct swap? Thanks.

actually im really interested about this topic also. :thumb: i have a 93 gsx and i was thinking about building the motor although i wanted to know if its to much of a hassle. i dont want much down time so what exactly would you need to swap a 6 bolt on my 1g. its either doing that or building my 93 7 bolt motor. thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it true that the head that came on the 6 bolt is better than my 7 bolt head off of my 93 clipse? what im trying to figure out is wouldnt it just be better to throw in a 6 bolt motor and just get a flywheel to match up to my 23 spline tranny. if i were to throw a 6 bolt then would i need to change anything that connects onto the head? sorry about these questions im just really interested at this point :sneaky:

Hi, i'm new to the dsm world. And i am thinking that the 6 bolt main was made 90-92, I'm not totaly for sure on that so sombody please let me know. I have heard that the 6 bolt main engines are better then the 7. If this is true then why is that. I want to know any information you guys or girls can tell me about these engines. Thanks.

Ok yes 6 bolts were made fomr 90-mid 92. May, April of 92 is when they stopped making them. After that they put in the 7 bolt and a 4 bolt rear. You can find some 92's with the 6/4 combo which is a great find and you should jump on it if you cant. The 7 bolt engine is MORE likely to Crankwalk than the 6 bolt. Just the way it is. Crankwalk is from the car having no oil pressure at startup and you push the clutch in and the bearing gets weak and yea downhill from there. You can disconnect a wire under your clutch pedal so you dont have to start the car while pushing the clutch in. Big argument over CW, but all you need to know is, it sucks, it can happen to either 6 or 7, and when it does you need basically a new motor

Crankwalk is mostly known in the 2g 7 bolts. Its not as likely in the 1g's 6 bolt or 7. 95 has been a pretty mean year for CW. But its less likely to happen then you think. Alot of people have never had a problem. You only hear about those who do because they bi*** about it to vent. I would too if it happened to me.

Hi Everyone,
I need some help here if you guys&gals know anything about 6bolt+7bolt swap. Ok here it goes, I have a 92' Talon Tubo FWD + 93' Talon AWD. My 92' tranny is busted and my 93' oil pump locked + valve bent all mess up in there. I'm just wondering if I can use my 92' FWD Turbo motor on that 93' AWD Turbo. If I can what I need and what else do i have to do? I heard that a FWD can't be use on a AWD, because of the motor is diff. or flywheel or something. I'm not to clear on that. But if anybody know please reply on this thread so I don't have to spend any money on another AWD Motor.
~Thanks San

1g 6 bolt-7.8:1 compression,bigger rods,bigger rod and crank journals,6 flywheel bolts,can take more power

1g 7 bolt-lighter parts,smaller rods,7 flywheel bolts,wristoin the same diameter as 2g 7 bolts

2g 7 bolt-8.5:1 compression, smaller rods, stronger pistons, smaller ports on the head, smaller rod and crank journals, this is the one you here most about crankwalk.

Alright, well thank you guys for the replys. I learned alot. But do you think that a 92 or a 93 maybe AWD DSM would be a good car? Because I plan to upgrade one as i get more money. My eventual goal is probly around 300-350 Horse Power. Its more likly that I can get the 93 Instead of the 92. So just tell me what you guys think.

If you can get a late 92 with the 6/4. Just takes time to search for it. 300-350 hp wont be hard to acheive in these cars. Evo 3 turbo, supp mods, tuned. But its your money so get whatever year you want.
