In the middle of a 6 bolt swap (first timer:hellyeah:) and have a quick question about what to do with one of the coolant lines.

6 bolt short block with 2g head, thermostat housing, and water pipe.

What should I do with this line that originally went to the 7bolt block?

My brain tells me to tap into the line directly above, but wanted some input.

Thanks!

i believe thats the coolant line that runs to the turbo.

It's hard to tell what's what when you get a car thats been molested!

The line was a feed attached to the front side of the 7 bolt block, the 6 bolt block doesn't have a fitting there.

I thought of the turbo, but there were no coolant feed lines or return lines attached to it when I removed it. The only line attached to the turbo is the oil feed line, fed by the oil cooler.

True as my car is in pieces so its hard for me to remember so I'm not completely positive its a coolant line, people delete and plug the coolant but that's a personally choice.

Thatis deff without a doubt the old line for the coolant because of the banjo fitting and etc, just use that for coolant, and do not run that turbo without it, it was not designed to be just cooled with oil alone.

That is the coolant return line for your turbo. The six bolt block does not have the return on the front of the block. Run the line from your turbo to one of the coolant lines for the throttle body, put a "t" in it and call it a day. I used the line that goes back to the top of the thermostat.

Actually that is the feed line for the turbo, it might be a little hard to tell from the picture, the line comes straight off the coolant pipe, it's not a return line. I pulled up the diagram on a cd rom manual that I have and checked it out.

The turbo now doesn't have any coolant lines run to it, the guy I bought it from totally bypassed the turbo and just ran the feed line straight to the block.

I wonder why he deleted the coolant feed to the turbo

Now should I hook the feedline back to the turbo like it was meant to be or continue to bypass it?

The guy I bought it off of said it was a 20g, who knows how long he ran it like that, I personally ran it about 2 years like this without any problems untill I spun a rod, the whole reason I'm doing the swap!

Thanks for helping me straighten all this out guys :thumb:

You are correct that is the feed line, and running it straight to the block is a good solution - IF the 20G is oil cooled and does not need water going through it.

It all depends on the center section of your 20G - is it h2o cooled or oil cooled?
You may want to pull the turbo, take pictures and ask the expert, Justin, exactly what you have. There is a thread for that - Question for Justin.....
