6 bolt swap, Help me before I burn my car

Well, Today I finished up the 6 bolt swap, got it all good, turned the key, and the starter just spins, sounds like it's not even close to being gear->gear...

I got a FWD 6bolt flywheel from a guy off the forums, I used the 7 bolt FWD spacer....

Motor was from a 90 GSX...


Any ideas??????


Is the starter different?

I dont have a 1g starter in mine.Its a 6bolt swap.. Same as his?

Make sure that you hooked up both wires to the starter and the ground that is hooked to one of the starter bolts. If you hook up the large positive wire to the starter but not the small one you clip on, it will make the starter spin, but not kick out to the flywheel.

sounds to me you have your start hooked up wrong, I just went threw the same situation, sounds like you have the starter hooked up wrong or your battery is dead, if it just spins freely then check your starter first autozone or whatever can test it. make sure on your starter the pos is near the firewall and theres a cable on the actual starter on the side that is hooked up on the other side of the starter on the side the radiator, it sounds like you have that cable on the side of the starter on the pos side along with pos cable.

I think my starter is ***ked up, I took it to autozone, it tested ok , but when the Bendix gear goes back against the starter, it makes a weird grinding noise...


Also, The guy at Autozone said that testing machine runs at a much higher voltage...


I brought it home and hooked it up in my engine bay, I couldn't get it to do anything....


anyone have a starter for cheap?

I have 2 of them, both used look to be in good condition. I have no use for them so pm me if you want them for very cheap.

a fwd spacer is the metal shim between the transmission and the engine... I believe the AWD one is a bit thicker, even tho both of them are no more then like 3mm thick...

Sounds like a AWD flywheel to me, been there done that.

i totally agree!! its not the starter its the flywheel! awd flywheel is smaller is diameter than fwd!
