Hey guys, as you may know, I have a 2g I bought and destroyed the engine. So I swapped a 6 bolt in.....

I've put 400 miles on it since the swap, it runs excellent, except, it throws engine codes (I keep deleting them...)

First off here is the codes

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0403 EGR Flow Circuit Malfunction
P0443 EVAP Emission Control System C Fault

those are the 3 codes, and sometimes it does the P0300 twice...

First off, Have the emissions solenoids unplugged and off the car.....

the egr, it's on the car, I don't think its hooked up????

Should I get a block off plate???

also my Oxygen sensor is dead, I get .005-.020 readings on the SAFC regardless of throttle position or RPMS.....

(new o2 tomorrow)

My Map Sensor wasn't on, but I just put it on today and hooked a vac line up to it....

I have new NGK plugs and Wires... Power Transistor Module is grounded...

I don't have any clue why it does this, but when it throws the codes its like one cylinder just stops firing... my A/F gauge also lights up a bit even tho my o2 sensor is dead...

It likes to do it between 1800-3400 RPM Misfiring bad.... it's hard to even drive when it misfires like that.....

Any clue anyone??? Is it the o2 sensor dumping an insane amount of fuel??? ( I was averging like 6-10mpg with my MAP unplugged and the bad o2, I plugged the MAP in and haven't seen if it has improved at all)

Any ideas, comments, or clues would be great...

thanks guys

Oh yeah, here's some pics of sunday at the track, and washed and waxed :)

As Ed stated, read up on Magnus's tech page.. There are a couple of proven ways to get past the random mis-fire, and the baro mod seems to be about the most cost effective if you wish to stay on factory management.

It's just the nature of the beast of trying to run a 1G CAS on a 2G.

That's the 1800-3400 RPM Misfire that you are getting.

As far as the emissions MIL's, one of two things, either ignore them, or connect the solenoids electrically to make the CEL's go away. Emissions MIL's do not affect performance and are just an annoyance. I've deleted all of my emissions gear, and initially pulled all of the solenoids. I was rewarded with the same MIL's. Reconnecting the solenoids promptly solved the issue.

The P0403 code is probably associated with the MAP being disconnected. (MDP sensor~ Manifold Differential Pressure Sensor) The purpose of the MDP sensor is to support OBD-II EGR system monitoring. A bad O2 certainly isn't helping matters either, so reconnecting the MAP and getting a new O2 will more than likely solve some of the issues that you are seeing..

I'm kind of surprised that you didn't get a P1400 code with the MAP disconnected.

Good luck!

Meant to add the rest of this, but my connection dropped...

she is a beast, Im hoping for mid-high 13s, it's pretty fast, burns tire in 1st, 2nd and breaks em loose in 3rd on my low pros.. LOL

I made another post about tire options, I need drag radials....

going to go to the small 1/8th mile track this weekend....

I just want to get dialed in before I go to a big serious track and have something stupid happen and look like a dick :) LOL

thanks guys, this is what makes me like DSMs, all the great resources and people surrounding them!!!

Thanks so much!!

without this forum, my car wouldn't be what it is!

Personally, I would invest in DSMLink to fix these issues that you have. They all make perfect sense from the six bolt swap standpoint. I have a 1G head on my built 2G block, and happened to get these three codes and then some. I also happened to have a rear O2 heater circuit code thrown in there for good measure. Anyway, with DSMLink, this is how you fix these issues and why.

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected: This one is just obnoxious. You can use the Magnus method to invert the CAS signal given to the ECU, and that will work very well to help hard starting and that "lumpy" feeling you get at 3,000 RPM's, but you will still throw this code. Magnus recommends that you skew the barometric pressure sensor with a variable resistor so that the ECU stops looking for misfire. DSMLink does not do this. DSMLink just tells the ECU to stop looking for misfires, and you don't have to touch the barometric pressure sensor at all. Altering the signal from the baro sensor will change how the ECU factors it into your air fuel tables, something I wouldn't want to mess with. DSMLink also includes an "invert CAS" option so you don't have to rewire anything. You just check two boxes in DSMLink and this whole problem completely goes away, and driveability is great.

P0403 EGR Flow Circuit Malfunction: I messed with the 1G EGR on my car, and even had it hooked up for a while. I tapped the MDP sensor into a vacuum line, and had it mounted vertically on top of the 1G intake manifold. The 2G ECU just does not get along with it. Your mileage may vary. I had it 'sort of' working for a few hundred miles, and eventually it just threw another code. I played around with it for a while, but it never really worked 100%. DSMLink has another option to, you guessed it, stop checking for EGR operation. You can then block it off without fear of the dreaded CEL, and remove the MDP sensor completely. I did this, and was very happy with it, but I did lose about 2MPG as a result. My intake manifold is squeaky clean as a pointless side effect.

P0443 EVAP Emission Control System C Fault: I didn't get this exact code, but I got something similar. I still have my charcoal canister, and all the lines routed properly, but I removed the solenoid. I should probably hook this one back up, as all it does is relieve fuel vapor pressure, but the car runs fine without it. Uncheck another box in DSMLink, and this one goes away as well.

You're probably starting to notice a trend here. DSMLink can get rid of all the issues that you have, and allow you to run without any of those solenoids clogging your engine bay. Being able to run stutterbox, NLTS, antilag, and have good control over fuel, timing, and airflow are other pretty damned good side effects.

Matt.

Enraged is right on the money with DSMLink. I had random misfire for the longest time and a 93-94 black top CAS helped for about 200 miles and it started up again for some odd reason. I bought DSMLink and all my CELs went away. The only CEL I get is when i start knocking but DSMLink makes it do that so its all good. I have zero emission controls on my car right now and no CEL. LOL
