6/7 bolt block itself different besides head and crank?

is there a difference in the actual blocks between the 6 and 7 bolts or is it just a different rotating assembly? just wondering if i could take a 6bolt crank etc put it in any turbo block and it be the same, with a 1g head if a 2g block were to be used. am i thinkin completely wrong?
