Ohh I was under the impression I would want to have it glossy buffed and then the clear gets sprayed on right over that....Your saying that just wetsanded and not buffed will turnout like that with clear?

I guess that makes sense judging by the results from just a thin coating of water. :thumb: Thank you

Yeah, the clear is the gloss, not just a protective coat. Without a scratch the clear will not properly adhear to the color. What are you sanding with (grit wise)??? I'd probably finish it with 800 or 1000 and your ready for clear. I'd also use try and find a clear that is made out of the same material as the color, ya know something compatable to topcoat with. I wouldn't have the shop spray a urethane clear over it. It may be ok, or it may lift, I wouldn't want to take that chance and have however many hours down the drain.

Yea the cars in the process of getting the 600 grit treatment then on to the 800 all over the stupid thing. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do though haha. As for the paint and clear, I was just going to tell the shop that its Enamel paint and get an enamel coating.

I know this is supposed to be a 50 dollar paint job, but I imagine that a clear coat shot and finish will run about what, 300 bucks? So for 350 and a gloss shot like that I would say its still damn worth it.

looks super clean dude!!! me and my cousin are doing mine and his beamer on spring break since that's the only time he can do it...anyways looks clean! oh yeah how many eclipse do you even have?? i see 3 of them..hahaha

All I can tell you is dont skimp on the sanding, it will bite you in the ass. 1 week is veryshort to pull this off correctly as you can see I have been at it for awhile due to weather, class and problems and such. Goodluck though and just read everything.

by the way theres 3 dsms at this house...no more I swear haha.

HA, budgets are ment to be broken. You don't want to know what I spent on mine, and I did all the work. Atleast now you have an apperiation for the work that actually goes into it. Keep up the good work!:thumb:

Awesome, let me know if you need anything. Make sure to take lots of pics.
The red one is getting the motor that is now in the one I am painting, and the silver one under the car cover with only 23K miles is givin its motor to my black car. I already took the interior and installed it in my talon...could not pass up the almost new black leather..heres a pic below.

I definitely have new understanding for the prices of GOOD paint work, I also will consider painting all my vehicles this way if it comes out the way its looking like its going to.

EDIT see the door jambs painted...

nice nice nice...looks clean to me..but yeah my car's not running right so i just decided
to paint it unless i can figure out what is wrong...i have a thead on it, but doesnt
seem like anyone knows what's wrong, hopefully i can figure it out otherwise im
just painting it over spring break and then fix it.

how's the car coming along? i've started as of yesterday. looks farely good right now.
on my 2nd coat and looking nice. will post up some pics when i get the chance.

Have you wetsanded yet? I suggest doing 600 making it completly smooth so there are no deviations in the paint. It has to be uniform and flat. Post up the pics and dont rush anything !

EDIT Mine is the same as before. Im going to get to work outside today though, it will be about 50ish out soo thats good. I moved the 99gs back about 20 feet yesterday with 3 flat tires and a furnature mover on wheels proped under the autotranny...it was hard.

Im going to tear the motor out of that before I do anything else I think and then once the motor is out of my black talon Im goin to give the engine bay an undercoating treatment...that should look pretty sweet and be functional against rust.

sup man. yeah i wentsanded it and did use 600 grit to smooth it all out. i just have to wait until i get home from work and smooth it out again to put the 3rd coat on. so far so good!!

yeah must've been hard moving the gs with 3 flats..LOL...and the engine bay should look sweet when you're done undercoating it..dont forget to take pics. ill post mine up as soon as i can.

Haha yea taking pics is HUGE on a website like this. Allows for so much more information to be analyzed. Im stuck here in computers for another 2 hours but when I go home im going to get some work done. Should be good. Also spring break starts tomorrow so I will have like 11 days straight to work out there. Goodshit.

yeah you know it...yeah right now im about to put the 3rd coat on. it's looking pretty nice.
cant wait for the final result. dude you're so lucky you have 11 days straight to work on it. i mean i have all day to work on it but i gotta work and crap. but it's going good so far so im glad about that.

After wet sanding some MORE all day long, I have found that in the brightest sunlight I can see the places I missed alittle under the "water clear coat" when its out of direct light it looks AMAZING, but when the sun is beating on it and you get close you can see things underneath. It is barely anything to worry about, but I now have to option to spray the car....my buddy offerd all the equipment and services. Ill decide what to do tomorrow. Either way it will look good.

oh foreals! hmmm..either way it'll look nice. i have a spray gun but im probably
get my ass kicked if i spray the damn garage..LOL...but yeah give it a thought or two.
either way man...whatever you decide....

didnt put the third coat on, decided to let it sit for awhile, but we did sand it.
just gonna wait til tomorrow to paint.

Thats smart, make sure the coats are hard and even each time you do it, it WILL save you the time later even though it was a pain in the ass when you were doing it. Im going so smooth, Im starting to see white again which means I was uneven down to the first coat...###

I just getting it 100% smooth then Ill tough up the white areas and then sand em smooth again. Thats why I was considering accepting the paint help. A spray would be nice, even and glossy with just alittle less work. Alos....silver was looking good hahaha well see tomorrow. Im just talkin out my ass, 5 hours of sanding and 2 hours at the gym Im dead.

LOL...yeah didnt want to rush so fast to get it done. better to let dry up more.
spray would be nice but i think i'd like to see how doing it by hand turns out before i decide to spray it. yeah 5 hours of sanding is alot and 2 hours at the gym..damn..
i do the same crap at work too..8 hours of hard work and then 2 hours of sanding.

I've started on the body work for my hand rolled P job. I figured I'd do it since it's been in AZ for the last 14 yrs and been beaten raw by the SUN. Since its been here in TX for the past year I haven't had it on the road mutch, it just collected more dust. Plus a few probs have come from not driving it for a long time, but I just wanted to let all see some of the progress on it.

Here's the mirrors...Left is off the car with some sanding. Right is sanding with a coat. Still needs wetsanding and a few more coats but it's alot better than before. Oh the colors are going to be Black on roof and mirrors, and Smoke Gray on the rest. I was staring with Black top and blue rest but royal blue did not cut it. I painted a door handle and I was like hell no.

The small pieces that I took off the car are going to be rattle can. The rest of the car is going to be rolled. If anyone can get the handles and door jams plus any of the other areas covered nicer with a roller then I would love to learn how. I think this makes it easier for me, plus it makes the cheap paint job not look as cheap. I want to cover as much as the blue as possible since it's going to be smoke gray now.
