Thanks man, and yea Im getting excited. I have all three of my 420As out of my cars now haha Im painting all the engine bays with this method as well and its looking great. When I am done Ill write everthing from beginning to end and all the tips for you guys. Keep up the good work fellas.

Ya, this process sounds like it takes a really long time. My $20 20 minute paint job is good enough for my project cars. Im sure this process is nice and all, but if your gonna put that much time into it, spend a little bit more money, and get some good paint. Most paint shops can put good paint in a spray can. You would be better off to try that atleast.

Nahh it only takes a week start to finish...I hit winter though then just didnt touch it more than three times this semester. Im workin on motor swaps now so its again on hold

I looked into this method....but just seems like alot of work, you'd be much better off to just spray the car with a paint gun. Thats what I did, painting a car isn't hard. I prepped, masked, primed, sanded, painted and cleared, and wetsanded/buffed in alot let time then I know this roll on mess takes.

That may be true, but the point of this method is to get a paint job when you don't have all the equipment for a spray method. With the rollers, you spend about $50 for materials. For a spray method, you need to buy a spray gun, air compressor, line dryer, etc. and have a place to do the spraying. Not everyone has that. The $50 paint job is the answer :)

I see what your saying, but you really don't need expensive equipment to yeild good results with a spray job. I didn't use a high dollar spray gun, I used a $25 Harbor Freight paint gun. I didn't use a line dryer, LOL, I used a $1 water catcher thingy that screws into the back of my paint gun before the line. I didn't use a big, pricy air compressor either, I used a dinky little, like 5 gallon air compressor that I use to pump up my tires with. And I done it all (including spraying) in my garage at my house.

Maybe you can do a write-up on that, and show us how it turns out. Then it can be the "$200 Paint Job" or however much it cost for all of the equipment, and it can be another option for everyone to try (with less time invested) :thumb:

I might do that, IDK. I have pics of the end result but not any in progress pics.
BTW: I registered on here a while back, and got pissed off cause I could only post in this newbie BS, when I'm certainly not a newbie to the car/dsm scene, anyways how come it doesnt show my post # and how do I go about being a "proven member" LOL?

Well heres a teaser LOL:

So vanilla gorilla, LOL that name is funny, let us know about that harbor freight deal. That sounds cheaper than this method and if that's what you did to the car you posted then dayum.

Anyone see some of the new GM cars...they look worse than my paint before I wet sand. On a second note I bought an electric HVLP gun from HomeDepot today and son of a bi*** if it doesnt spray the thinned rustoleum on smooth as shit...I can believe I wasted all that time rolling and sanding. The gun is the wagner control spray or something....its bad ass I should grab some pics of my test door and progress. I have just been busy swapping these motors from one to the next the so paint has been on the back burner.

Wagner. Isn't that what you paint like houses and stuff with?

white dsm: No, a real sprayed on paint job like what I done will be alot more expensive than the roll on method. Automotive grade paint is expensive. I lucked up and got my paint and clear for free, but I had to buy primer, hardener, reducer, plus all the various grits of sandpaper and rubbing compounds/polish, plastic filler. For a Base/Clear paint job, this is just an estimate but you probably won't get the paint/clear/hardener/reducer/primer for less than like $250 (just guessing).

Heres the pics of the engine bay I had to spray obviously because it needed paint before the motor could go on...it was white before...

420A,
nice job man. you've really put in a lot of time into this project.
From your experience would you say that it'd be smarter to get the gun and spray the Rust-oleum and mineral spirits mix as opposed to rolling it?
Thanks Bro

If you thin the Rustoleum with acetone you can spray it.:shhh:

Ive been reading up on painting your car with rustoleum paint using a roller... at first I was like there is no way im painting my car with a roller. After reading up on it and seeing some pics, the paint actually comes out very nice. Basically you paint your car with rustoleum paint (mixed with thinner) via roller, about 6 coats and wet sand the hell out of it. Obviously if your looking for a show car this is not the way to go, but if your looking for a dicent paintjob that will basically have no runs and hardly any orange peel if any, this might be the way to go. Especially when it costs around 80 bucks to do it. Check out this website,
Home.... I think im going to give it a shot, let me know what you guys think and if anyone has done it before.

Me and my friend are going to try this method on his hood today. Hopefully it will work for us because his car desperately needs it (flat black primer isn't too catchy ;))
I'll see if i can get some before and after pics for everyone.

Im gonna do this to my DD. check the link out ^. Ive seen a car in person roller painted, it was a bright ass green 240sx and it looked incredible.
