OK,Ive been dealing with this noisy gear box ever since I bought the car(about 3 years now). Its not the TO bearing.I tore my trans apart and cleaned every bearing and gear possible.I put everything back and sealed her up but she still squeals when cold.I then took a stethascope to try to find where the noise was comming from.It seems to be comming from the driverside under a cover.there is a corkscrew type thin strip of metal that spins around.seems like its supposed to kick oil up to the top of the gears, but when its cold and I just start her up she is very noisy.Does that corkscrew thing need to be replaced every so many miles or could it be the oil in the gearbox is not the right type.

Very good, Danielson :thumb: Yes that is one of the many pieces that can make noise in our trannies (its called a slinger or oil pump). Generally what you want to do is take her apart and clean out the tube that it spins in to be sure that the oil is going through.

Honestly, what I would do is see if there seems to be a lot of gunk in there. If not, the "normal" fix for this is to simply bend an end of the slinger so that it does not move in the tube. But what you might want to do to be sure its the slinger (and not something like worn shift selector pads), is pull out the slinger and see if the noise goes away on a cold start. I haven't done it before, but looking at it, I believe that you can do that with the engine in.

I washed every thing real good piece by piece in the parts washer before I put it back together.I had another trans that also made the same noise.Im wondering if its from not using the proper trans fluid.my family has a heavy equipment garage right outside my back door which ive allways worked at.I have a bad habit of using the same oil that we use for the machines in my car.I think Im gonna go out and buy th right fluid today and see if it helps.I keep you posted.Thanx for the help OH YEH my name isnt Dan its Rob;)

I'd like starfish. There will be no waxin on or waxin off for me due to the 6 pins and rods holding my arm together.but anyway I thought the atf-4 could only be bought at the dealer?I just picked up 3 quarts at advanced auto
