Hello everyone. I got a 1998 GSX Spyder with a 4g64 in it. It has a very bad ATF oil leak. It’s weird because it’s not leaking from the transmission. More the opposite side of the transmission.

Transmission sits on the passenger side but the oil leak is coming from the driver side right under the driver side wheel well liner. I’m so confused as to why it leaks from there.

anyone know why ?

I’m not running any power steering fluid at all. Reservoir is empty.
Isn't the reservoir empty because of the leak? Even it's empty you may still have the fluid left in the lines and the rack. If the leak is from the transmission then just go under the car and pin-point from where, like axle seal, output shaft seal, pump seal, oil pan etc.

I double checked the axle seals, pump seal oil pan and rear main no leaks any of them.

I thought about what you said about the power steering reservoir. It was empty but there was red fluid in there. The mechanic who worked on my car a few months back must’ve put some in there.

My question now is. How can I do a power steering delete ?

So the leak is from the power steering and now you want to remove it because of the leak?

So the leak is from the power steering and now you want to remove it because of the leak rack and pinion needs to be replaced.

The rack and pinion is in dire need of replacing 😂 but that’s for a later time.

I want to run no power steering temporarily.
Can I run it without fluid? Or should I just remove the pump ?

On the automatic 4g63-4 cars there is a transmission cooler behind the bumper infront of the ac condensor. It is filled with transmission fluid. You need to remove the front bumper and check it out.

I deleted the factory one and ran one about twice the size and thickness on the passengers side where the intercooler use to be

Yes, but with no fluid you should at least remove the PS belt so the pump doesn't run while dry.

There's articles out there on doing a PS delete by looping the pressure and return lines. It works, but makes for a hella time in parking lots or low speed situations. I don't think it would be much different than just leaving all the hoses and pump hooked up with no fluid.

You really should use a donor manual rack to do it properly. On the other hand, get a rebuild kit or a refurb rack (assuming it is the rack leaking and not the lines).
