Alright, most of my previous posts have been about turbo-ing a straight n/a 6-bolt with no real modifications. As long as I've been toying around with that idea, I keep asking myself how hard it would be to just put turbo pistons in, new bearings, better head gasket, new gaskets all around, and go from there. I'm getting a good used set of 6 bolt turbo pistons, and plan on buying new rod and main bearings and rings. I have an entire 13g kit I pieced together to put on, but if I ever wanted to upgrade, I wouldn't have to worry about n/a pistons. Just wondering what you guys think about the whole plan. Thanks!

Some one on here will have to verify but I thnk there is a difference in the crankshaft and the rods between the 4g63 and the 4g63t motor. I think they need to be forged internals. I could be wrong.

Make sure you get some turbo rods, thats the weak link.

Just so you know, n/a and turbo rods are EXACTLY the same.... the differences in rods comes into play when comparing 1g vs 2g rods and its a FACT that 1g rods are beefier....

The only thing you really need to do is get turbo pistons due to the higher placement of the ring landings on the non turbo pistons... Those nt pistons cant take much more than a low amount of boost before they like to give way....

Yeah, thats what I thought about the rods, I figured they were the same, but I just bought the pistons and rods together so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of pressing out the wrist pins and changing rods. at least thats how I look at it. And I have the 91+ OFH, as my block is a 91, so I figured I'd match it up, even though I would've rather had the 90 OFH with the external cooler, as I already have the bracket to mount it, but oh well, I'm not running anything big, just a baby 13g. I pieced together the entire kit rediculously cheap. Hell, I even scored the auto computer that runs the 390's for 10 bucks on ebay...score! Haha

Well, thanks for the info guys, I'll be starting over thanksgiving break for sure.

I'm sorry i meant pistons, that's why i posted the link...

What are you thinking is a better HG?

When you do the rebuild, what machine work are you going to have done?
