Ok so I got my first eclipse and it needs some work. I have done a ton of research and still can't resolve the problem.

It is a 97 eclipse gs 420a Manuel. Every time I start the car the rpm shoots straight up to 2k and slowly comes down to 600. It then bounces between 600-700 and when I give it some gas it lags for a split sec and revs up to 2k again. It will not let me hold the rpms anywhere between 700-2k even if I give the throttle the slightest touch. It also makes it super difficult to take off in 1st gear (motor mounts are blown also so it shakes a lot ) so far I has adjusted the biss screw, checked for vac leaks, replaced fuel pump and filter.

Any ideas?? Thanks

- Jake

I mean the throttle position screw. No codes. And I plan on cleaning that tomorrow see if it helps. Hoping I don't have to buy a new one

I have never messed with an IAC before, is it better to just buy a new one?

Simple things to check before throwing money into sensors..

Replace Throttle Body Gasket
Trace all vacuum lines to and from the T/B and verify they are in good condition (Not cracked, hard, barely hanging on)

Read this entire page, your car's sensors and vacuum lines are in different locations than 4g63's, but the idea is still the same. Something is causing air to leak past into the intake, causing a surge in the idle. The ecu compensates by limiting fuel.

Terry's Talon Troubleshooting Tips #3 - Fast Idle (aka. Idle Surge)

so far I has adjusted the biss screw, checked for vac leaks, replaced fuel pump and filter.

Clean in and around the Throttle body with a carb cleaner, careful not to get any on the sensors.
Get a can of Electrical contact cleaner, that's safe for connectors, sensors, and computers and clean all the sensors and their connectors.

Awesome thanks for the advice. I'm going to try everything after work and see what my results are.

One more thing.. The douche that had the car before me lowered the car to the ground and I do not have a lowered jack. Any tips? Haha

Having similar problem. My jumps from 200 to 1000rpms then when I get on the gas pedal to get up to speed on say the highway it cuts the power to the dash lights and jerks to stay on. I tried to show a friend last nite and it wouldn't do it and all of a sudden the speedo and rpm gauge stopped working please help this new long blocks got me thinking I should of bought a new car instead
