ok heres the deal i have a 95 eclipse with the infamas 420A which i love. i have turboed this car with a custom built turbo system. i have the 14b turbo, frount mount intercooler, fmu,255 fuel pump, and external wastegated vented. curently i run at the track 14.408 @ 97 mph i looking for the 13.9 the engine is all stock internals. i with only 75000 miles on it. i was wondering if the 16g swap would help me reach this goal only running 7psi. i know i should build the bottom with forge piston and rods and lower the comp ratio so i can run more the 7psi but i only looking to gain .500 of a sec. on street tires. can this be gain with a 16g swap or would i have to build the engine for it to handle it. i have a spare block to build. but if i go down that road i wouldn't settle for anything less the 12's

(take note 4g63 owners don't bash my car and say get the gst this isn't helpful i've already spent more on my car the most of you ever well. and i don't mind spending more. its something about taking a car that ran 17.00 completely stock in the 1/4th to 14.4 and maybe lower)

a 16g will move more air but probably wont help that much. first get a afcII. then take it to a shop with a dyno and get it tuned that could alone bring you to your goal and they could easly find you 40whp by getting the correct fuel maps and limmiting your knock and rasing your boost. i think thats your best step next instead of a turbo. you also may need larget injectors. but good luck

are you still running stock 420A injectors? How many pounds of boost are you running on your current set up? Do you know your A/F ratio, timing, knock?
yes i'm still running stock injectors on 7psi and there doing the job. i want to do the 450cc's and safc a/f ratio is fine goes blue when i stop on it hits 10.0 on my apexi turbo timer a/f gauge i know this isn't dead on the money but its getting plenty of fuel for the setup it has now. i know if i go up in boost i need bigger injecters i'm not a noob at this

injectors for proper tuning and no worry about fuel, and a afc and then dyno tune thats your key it will make a larger power band and more power.

ok maybe i need to start a new forum i want to get to 13's if theres away to do it without building the block i would like to go that route before doing the build because if i do the build i want to do everything headwork, cams, forged internals, the works but if theres something i can do to get to 13's without this if possible. does anyone think cams or headwork or maybe both would do the job? :dsm:

you think the 450cc's with safc dyno tune would get me there?
i think it would make a improvement maybe .2 drop in et maybe .3 but i dunno about .500 of a sec.

Sounds like your goin to build up that block with lower comp pistons so buy it all.

Get the 16g, 450cc's, safc dyno tune it. Put that on the motor you got now and see wat you get. You might not get the 13.9 (i think you should) you want but in the end you'll be able to take those parts and swap them onto your new block.

Go big or go home :thumb:

i would think it could possably get it about .5 closer if your not tuned properly at all with the exhact right fuel mixture which your porbably not because you have no fuel management i think getting a tune with injectors you could probably do it. also on the dyno you can get the proper fuel pressures which will give you a much better power curve and much more power i had a decent tune just on the road with my afc and no logger and we made 50 more whp when we put it on the dyno thats pritty good power improvements. just by tuning. but good luck.

i agree i think with lower comp and forged internals and 16g i think i pull alot faster then 13.9 but because if i lower the comp to 8.8:1 with forged internals the engine should be able to handle 15 psi i would look to atleast low to mid 13's with this on street tires. :dsm:

i was just thinking, if you can only run 7psi on the 14b, why get the 16g? On that setup you can only run so much air into the motor. whether its 10psi on a 13g, 7psi on a 14b, or 5psi on a 16g...........just because you get a bigger turbo doesnt mean you'll go faster.
Why not just get injectors, turn up the boost, and tune on the setup you have now.........does that make sense?
I like that idea of the lower compression and internals with the 16g, that would be a nice setup.......

the reason for betting a 16g is cuz he can reuse it when he switchs over to low comp pistons. This way when he switchs over he doesnt need to buy another turbo, he can just crank the boost up and call it a day

I would do a rebuild with lower comp pistons. And supporting mods..I.E. Fuel, P&P the head, maybe new cams, and cam gears. And what ever you might be able to aford. I know this is not the route you wanted to go but you can still have a very reliable daily driver after a rebuild plus you will be able to turn up the boost for the track. A word of advise though if you do the rebuild yoruself dont let your lil bro help. Trust me when I say my new rebuild is costing me twice what it should. The only reason this is my 3rd rebuild within the last 3 years is because I push my car hard. And I get board and need something to do. what a life, I have been thinking about moving on to an Rx7 or Supra, I will always love DSM's but they are starting to boar me I need somthing new. What ever you do good luck at the track. I hope you get the times you want.:thumb: Sorry for any spelling for some damn reason every time I try to spell check it Error on page comes up

well, a 16g would never hurt performance, and IF he rebuilds down the road he would make more power with a 16g for sure.......but he's trying to make up .5 seconds at the track with his setup that he has now and he was wondering if a 16g was the answer........He hasnt decided on building up the internals yet, if he does, i would say get the 16g no doubt.......

I say get injectors, tune, turn up the boost slightly, and get a good launch.......
that's the best answer i can think of......

I agree with Larsen:dsm:
