14b vs big 16g

how do these two compare on a 2g? a 14b would be cheaper right?

i found a 24x12x3 garret core on ebay for $350. i bought the core and welded my own end tanks on (built from sheet aluminum) the piping i bought from jc whitney and the silicone connectors from a local truck stop. the exhuast is one 90 degree bend and one 45 degree bend from jc whitney and some straight 3" tube from fleet farm. the flex section is a piece of exhuast repair tubing. the hangers i built from some rod i had lying around. all ic and exhaust flanges i cut from 1/4" steel plate.

i guess if you had to pay someone to weld everything together for you then you would spend an extra $200-300 on labor.

people have run low 12's on the stock intercooler and no fuel management.

the 14B is a bolt on for the 2G's right? What's the stock boost of the 14B compared to the T25?

If you want something done right (and cheap), you have to do it yourself.

not everyone has access to a welder or has the experience to properly weld the piping. So in most cases, it would be expensive and probably done wrong if anyone and everyone just did it themselves.

I borrowed a friend's welder, and it was the first time I ever welded anything. There were only 2 welds required. The one for the throttle body elbow. And one for the blow off valve flange. And I couldn't get all the pinhole leaks out of it. So what did I do? I used JBWeld to fill in the pinholes. It has been holding that way for 3 years. You could also just cut the pipes the way you want and take it to a local welder.

yup, cut the pieces how you want them and mark them with a marker. bring them to a local welder and pay $60/hr to have them tig welded or pay $40/hr at a muffler shop. either way, you can weld ALOT of pipe in an hour. bring your mandrel pipe and tube to a muffler shop and have them weld you a 3" exhuast for $100. or rent out a welder for about $30 a day.

i ran 14.9 without doing any modification to a stock 92 laser with 30g original miles done in july of 2003

completely stock 1g manual with 14b and stock exhaust...nothing ever removed except tranny for clutch

13.9 @ 96mph (14-10psi)
-air filter
-hacked mas
-leaky boost controller

13.7 @ 95mph (13-9psi)
-previous mods
-gutted cat
-leaky boost controller

current upcoming time should be in teh 12's
my "doctor" (mechanic) made a new recipe for my car
i shoudl hit a 12.8

this is completely stock and never taking the turbo or the head off for any repairs


14b has done 11.8's.....big 16(unported unclipped) has done low 12's...small 16(unported unclipped) has done high 11's

sleeper big 16 has done low 11's

All the 16Gs have run 11s. Well, except for the Evo 16G, but I plan to change that next year.

Exactly one car with a 14B has ever run an 11 second time. Take a look at www.dsmtimes.org and check out the number of cars in the 11s with a 16G of some sort.
