I have a 1gA with the 4 speed auto, 4g63n/t. I just had a friend rebuild my engine, and replace my dirty cat with a straight pipe. For my first test run after the rebuild, it seems like no power was getting to the wheels, this was when no pressure through the broken exhaust. So it seemed kind of normal to me so I continued on the test drive and realized the tranny was permenantly in 2nd but took a lot of rpm's to get anywhere. It was drive able but really bad, good thing 2nd gear tops out at 70mph...
Anyway, I had slight issue with shift linkage because actual "d" was between neutral and D, so I Assumed shift linkage. But with no power to the wheels he remembered he had the same issue with his old 1g, the exhaust pipe wasn't grounded out... So later after he installed the straight pipe and fixed the exhaust leak, it had normal power again. Shift linkage seemed prime, weird cus it was always loose when I had it. But I drove maybe 20 miles when I was happy to finally recieve my DSM back, but then the exhaust seemed way louder out of nowhere and started to lose power again staying in 2nd gear not shifting. So I tugged on the ground wire to see if it broke loose which it was strongly welded to the pipe.. I was confused, added 2 quartz of auto tranny fluid and it didn't fix anything. It cooled down after talking to my friend so long about his build, then when I went to take my car home it was actin normal again!!! I was surprised so I went an got food, turned it off in the drive thru, and once I left it started having no power Again not shifting down or up from 2nd..
Thanks for reading my story, I hope someone can save me stress hah
