1G 3.0 DOHC swap

i just bought a 93 talon with a 3.0 swap already complete. it needs an axle n im not sure what axle i need to get. i was told by a guy at a local parts store that the 25 spline axles from the 93 talons and the 94 3000gts are the same. so i was gonna go buy the stock 25 spline axle tommorrow but i dont want to waste my money if its not the right one. any info would b appreciated.

I think he may be referring to the 3.0 v6 from the N/T 3000gt/stealths.

You need to find out if the axles are the same length as well.

Bud cracks me up, he doesnt believe anything.

I have definitely seen this swap done, there is a video of some guys driving one around the yard somewhere. Also Bud, be on the lookout for one with a Supra motor in it.

so i did some research n found that the stock talon axle will work as long as the tranny in the car is a 90-93 it takes a 25 spline input shaft same as the talon. my only concern is the diameter of the stock talon axle compared to the diameter of the input on the 3000gt tranny. so i guess i need the casting # on the tranny to determine the yr. does anybody know if therell b a difference in the diameter?

Maybe the 3000gt forums would be more helpful than this site. That's more than likely the reason why pics are beig asked for. I am curious to see this swap as well though.

I wonder if he's using the turbo engine is why I'm curious..

And the supra one is just stupid..I'm going to spend 4 grand on a supra motor and put in a dsm..I hope its in a fwd..Just so I can laught more about how stupid of a swap that was..

no its non turbo im plannin on puttin a turbo on it when my budget allows. right now its pretty plain nothin done but the swap besides a full magnaflow exhaust n some black 17' momo rims. ppl r talkin about rarity n price n well u all r gonna think im lyin but i found it on craigslist for 1000 so i drove down to knoxville n picked it up the next day. it runs fine i havent drivin it bcuz of the axle situation but so far everything seems pretty legit.

oh ya n mines fwd but im not gonna complain bn as i got it so cheap n i have a feelin itll haul a little ass before i even slap a turbo on it.

What tranny are you using? A 3S or DSM tranny?

2 b honest man idk what tranny it is im pretty new to mechanics ive been turnin wrenches since i was 16 but im just learnin as i go n i just bought it so idk that much about it yet. so im not really familiar with the 3s tranny. its the 3000gt tranny 5 speed with a short shifter thats all i know.

I believe 3S refers to the 3000gt/stealths.
If it's a 3000gt tranny, you will need a 3000gt axle. If it's a dsm tranny, then you will need a dsm axle.

No, I already looked into the 3000gt axle, It's too long, and it doesn't have the same spline count. I just hope I have a 90-94 3000gt tranny. If that's the case I can put a Talon axle in. The problem has pretty much been resolved. I'll still post pictures though.

i am just curious, but if it is the the 3000gt tranny in your dsm then why would the 3000gt axle shaft have a different spline count? Also just a question could you just measure the correct axle length you need and have the 3000gt axle machined down to the correct length, assuming it had the correct spline count but was just too long.

A DSM transmission won't mate to the 6G72 block so it's a 3S version of the trans. So the inner CV has to match the trans spline count and the outer CV the DSM wheel hub.

IIRC, the transmission will have the original VIN on it that it came from and from that you can figure out what year.

I found out it's a KM-210 tranny they're in Hyundai Sonata which also have the 3.0. It's a 5 speed transmission. The KM-210 tranny has 25 spline input so does the 93 Talon. Problem solved.

This whole time I was thinking I'd need a custom axle when all it needs is the stock one. Although I'm curious to see how it works being as the transmission could be sitting in a different location. I don't know I'm just gonna go get the stock axle and see if it fits.

how does the car run? Do you know how the swap was done exactly?
