Hey guys quick question. I am planning a SOHC to DOHC conversion on my 99 spyder gs in anticipation of putting on a turbo. My question is how much is reasonable to pay for a 4g63 DOHC head?? I am in Arizona and have found a few on the internet and what not and are running $500-$600 and this is my first foray in DSM tuning I want to make sure I am not getting gouged. Any help would be fantastic, especially from any AZ guys who know where is a good place to find that head locally. P.S. anyone who doesn't wanna post what they paid here please pm me with any help. Thanks again guys.

I freshly rebuilt head with new seals and a valve job with new springs and retainers should run you about as much as you've seen.
Are you putting a 94 DOHC Head from a Galant on your 4G64?
If so, then I think you'll be ok with the compression ratio.
But if you are putting a DOHC Head from a Turbo DSM on your stock 4G64 bottom end, the compression ratio will be to high because the combustion chamber volume is only 47cc's.
Check me on this though, I've never done it.
Search around, took 0.09 seconds to find pages of 4G64 info.

I've seen this mod its like having a stroked 4g63 (2.3) I have a STOCK 2g head for sale I will sell it complete with water housing, cas, even the head bolts so u can just bolt it up and do the swap. Pm me if interested I'm always willing to help a fellow dsmR out ;)

We need to know if the OP intends on building the bottom end with new rods and pistons.
If he's building the bottom end with the proper pistons that are dished to work with the 4G63's combustion chambers, then he's golden.
Like these, EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Manley Performance Pistons w/ Rings (8.5:1 C.R.): Mitsubishi 4G64 w/ 4G63 Head (22mm Pin)

If he doesn't change the pistons and just plops the 4G63's smaller combustion chamber head on the 4G64 bottom-end, then the static compression ratio of the engine will be way too high.

Why do you think companies like Manley state "Manley Performance Pistons w/ Rings (8.5:1 C.R.): Mitsubishi 4G64 w/ 4G63 Head" probably because the combustion chamber of a 4G63 head is smaller than that of the 4G64.

Look into it and you will see.
***Edit*** I did some searching for you.

I used 1st gen dohc head on my 4g64 with wiseco pistons 9.0:1.
Engine worked ok, and was pushing 350 whp and 408 of torque.
Now I'm using the manley onces 8.5:1 worked ok also.
Slowboy have both of those pistons.

Ya I plan on doing the pistons because of the compression issue. The pistons seem to be way more available so I can easily gauge prices. The used DOHC head I don't see online near me as much so I am just trying to get a feel for what they go for.
